These are the tales of collectors who didn’t get to travel since 2019, due to the whole COVID-19 situation, and that live vicariously through their toy orders. During the pandemic, between the delays and the post system being in complete chaos, our precious toys sometimes take different paths than the usual “A to B” to get to us, and make detours to places we wish we would have visited. We are left wondering why that parcel has a better life than us. Those are weird times…

This week, we’re taking a look at the AEW Unrivaled Series 4 from Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys! Another solid wave, with 4 brand new “first time ever” figures, and 2 repeats…but what repeats! That new Kenny Omega figure is spectacular! Here’s a look at the wave in their packaging -

Oh yes! Le Spanish God! Our team, Le Sex Gods is reunited!

The new Kenny Omega figure is now one of my all-time favorite wrestling figures, not only from AEW, but in general! The likeness is spot-on! The expression, the gear, etc… Kudos to the guys at Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys! It’s perfect. He comes with an extra set of hands.

I hear the battle cry…Under the Devil’s Sky…

The One Winged Angel screams… It fuels my Hopes and Dreams… THE BEST BOUT MAAAACHIIIIINE!

Cody comes with an extra ‘serious’ headsculpt, in case you don’t want to display him with the goofy smile head (which I will, because…goofy smile head!). The details on his gear, belt and soft goods t-shirt are great. In that instance, this is one of those where the chase version is a bit better, since it has the Metal Gear Solid inspired logo with Cody’s dog on it, and since I am a sucker for anything MGS, I really wouldn’t mind having the variant instead.

Did you know: Cody Rhodes is the son of legendary wrestler, The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes!

Santana and Ortiz, aka “Proud and Powerful” (or formerly LAX in Impact) both look amazing. It’s tough to pick a favorite in that wave, because there’s so many good ones. Santana comes with an extra head (from when he feuded with Moxley and had an eye patch), extra hands, a ‘rock in a sock’ madball weapon and a puerto-rican flag. Ortiz comes with a second headsculpt (with braids), extra hands, and the ultimate weapon: LA CHANCLA (best toy accessory EVER!).

THE ULTIMATE WEAPON !

Sammy Guevara, the Spanish God comes with sunglasses, his leather jacket and a few signs saying “HIT ME UP!”, like he usually show to the camera during picture-in-picture commercials (which is a freaking clever way to still do something while the commercials are on, if you ask me!).

Last but not least, “Broken” Matt Hardy comes with his glorious Broken attire, but also with his trusted accomplice, the drone Vanguard-1, which also has a Matt Hardy hologram. You read that right, the accessory has accessories! Do the people at Jazwares have any limit??

That’s it for Series 4! Series 5 will have Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, SCU’s Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky, and new versions of Jon Moxley and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. It is already being dispatched to those who ordered it early, but this time, I had a brainfart, and forgot to pre-order it once I got my paycheck (silly me!), and now, Luchasaurus is sold out, and I’m very very sad! (I think I’ll just pick and choose from now on, since I’m starting to run low on space in that AEW ring, so I will try to get at least the SCU guys and maybe the Jurassic Express two-pack, even though I would have prefered the single version Jungle boy).

Series 6 has already been announced and will have 4 repeats (Jericho, MJF, Penta and Rey Fenix) with Jake Hager and most importantly, Hikaru Shida as new characters.

First things first, ToyFarce hopes you had a great weekend of toy hunting and managed to get Bludd on your hands (or the Star Wars Clone Wars figures!). It was a very eventful weekend for the toy community, and we hope many managed to get their coveted figures.

During the weekend, NECA made several announcements for awesome figures and a prop replica, that will all hit at the same time, on Father’s Day. The first ‘batch’ showed figures from ‘The Boys’, Homelander and Starlight, a colored Frankenstein monster, and a GLORIOUS prop replica of the Grappling gun from ‘Batman: the Animated Series’, which will all be first available only at Walmart, before being available everywhere else later on:

The second “batch” includes the 2015 version of Doc Brown from ‘Back to the Future II’ (Great Scott!), 2 new versions of King Kong, and the long awaited figure of MacReady from ‘The Thing’. Those will be exclusive to Target at first, before being available everywhere else later on as well.

All that plastic goodness available on Father’s Day? What a nice treat! We can already imagine hordes of dads heading to their supermarkets on their special day… On the other hand, Mother’s Day was just a few days ago (May 9th), but no toys were released that day…

Here is what a spokesperson of the AMFMD (the Association of Mothers for Mother’s Day) told ToyFarce:

“Well, that is a bit unfair! You know what I got for Mother’s Day? A necklace made of macaronis, made by my son. Also, a drawing from my daughter, which, of course, is one of the most beautiful drawings ever made. At least, that’s what I told her (Narrator’s voice: It was not). Now, my husband is going to get a sweet, sweet grappling gun from Batman, figures from ‘The Boys’, or a nice Kurt Russell figure for Father’s Day? UNFAIR.”

Earlier this week, we have learned that Target will stop selling trading cards (Pokémon, NBA, NFL, MLB) nationwide, starting from today (May 14th, 2021). The whole trading card collecting has been booming lately, with cards going up in value exponentially. Collectors, along with non-collectors who want to make a quick buck (aka scalpers) have been going to the stores at opening hour and litteraly fighting over trading card packs. Here are a couple of pics that have been seen in various stores:

The decision came after several incidents were reported over the last few months, as adult people were actually fighting over trading cards (See also: GI Joe Classified Series Cobra Island figures / Major Bludd / NECA Turtles in Disguise 4-pack, etc…). An incident in Wisconsin went a bit too far, guns were involved, and the Target employees were tired of having people ask about them all the time (once again, see also: GI Joe Classified Series Cobra Island figures / Major Bludd / NECA Turtles in Disguise 4-pack, etc…).

“I’m definitely gonna get some Pokémon cards today! I feel lucky!”

Somehow, they didn’t bat an eye when the entire country was fighting over toilet paper, but that’s none of our business… (insert Kermit sipping tea meme). There were videos on the internet of litteral fights over toilet paper for months, but that did not make them stop selling toilet paper…

“Hey! It’s limited to 1 per family!”

ToyFarce heard that after reading the comments online about that decision, Target is planning to stop selling anything in the store, whether it is food, clothes, toys, etc… until people learn to behave appropriately.

A representant of Target sent the following statement:

“They’re just cards, for f***’s sake! That’s it, we’re shutting it all down. You all can go to your room and think about what you did!”

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

This week, we are taking a look at some of the NECA figures from the Guillermo Del Toro movies, which we will dub ‘The Doug Jones Collection’, since Doug played most of those characters. But first, an introduction from Doug Jones himself!

ToyFarce note: I made a complete fool of myself when I wrote ‘Matilda’ instead of ‘Ofelia’ in the request, since I wanted to joke that he also played her. This is why you always double check before you send something, folks. Let it be a lesson for all of us. And many thanks to Doug Jones for delivering this!

Doug Jones is the actor extraordinaire that played all sorts of monsters and creatures in all your favorite movies and TV shows. From the Gentlemen in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Abe Sapiens in the Hellboy movies, all sorts of monsters in Guillermo Del Toro’s movies, the Silver Surfer in the Fantastic four movie, and many more. These days, he can be found as Lt. Saru in Star Trek: Discovery. The fact that he can act so well without showing his face is a testament to his talent. I personally love the way he moves his hands, and can sometimes recognize him just from the way his hands ‘act’. And now, the figures!

THE AMPHIBIAN MAN from THE SHAPE OF WATER

A great figure from NECA. The ‘yellow’ skin parts are a bit transparent, and the figure has some shine on it, to make it look like it’s wet. It comes with a base with chains and cuffs, a different ‘screaming’ head and some eggs (the Amphibian man’s favorite snacks!). The movie was a masterpiece (as is tradition with Guillermo Del Toro), and the figure does it justice. Doug Jones did an amazing job in that one too, even if naysayers will say that it’s basically just a silent Abe Sapiend from Hellboy. The articulations are a bit meh, but nothing unusual for NECA. It’s not like the character was a professional gymnast in the movie anyway…

THE FAUN from PAN’S LABYRINTH

Another amazing movie from Guillermo Del Toro, Pan’s Labyrinth came out in 2006 (What?!). The 3 following figures are from that movie. A newer version of the Faun came out recently, with his ‘older’ look from the beginning of the movie (in the movie, he seems to age backwards and become younger every time we see him). Doug Jones played multiple characters in the movie, all of them being, as usual, creatures with tons of make-up and prosthetics. The figure comes with 2 bags, and is an amazing piece of plastic.

It’s pretty amazing that it can stand, considering the legs are bent backwards. Great job, NECA!

OFELIA (NOT MATILDA) from PAN’S LABYRINTH

Like mentioned at the beginning of the review, I wrote ‘Matilda’ instead of ‘Ofelia’ in the request for an introduction to Doug Jones, so I will keep calling her ‘Ofelia (not Matilda)’. This is the cross I have to bear. Another great figure from Pan’s Labyrinth. She comes with a pillar, her fairy tale book, the key that she gets from the giant toad, and 3 little fairies.

The Pale Man, another character coming right out of the mind of Guillermo Del Toro. The figure looks great. Maybe too great, considering we can see all the details of his loose skin hanging and all… You should not open that figure before eating! The Pale Man comes with his massive chair, and a plate of eyes.

Over the weekend, some new Hasbro Marvel Legends leaked pictures found their way on the interwebs (it seems to be tradition before a Marvel Monday, at this point). The leaked figures are all from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a Odin figure from the first ‘Thor’ movie, and a snappin’ 2-pack of Iron Man and Thanos from ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

It is not the first time that pictures of figures leak before being officially announced. It is, however, the first time that such a big crossover project gets leaked without ever been mentioned before! A Marvel Cinematic Universe/West Side Story crossover was something still unheard of before the leaks!

Now, you can add Iron Man and Thanos to your West Side Story Jets display, and they will snap their fingers along with the gang. Here are some exclusive clearly official pictures from the upcoming crossover:

ARMY BUILDING: THE UNOFFICIAL RULES!

Stormtroopers. Foot soldiers. Putty patrollers. Cobra infantry. Hydra soldiers. What do all those names have in common? They’re all troops! In the toy collecting world, ‘army building’ is the art of collecting multiple of the same action figure, in order to build an army (clever, right?). But what are the rules of ‘Army building’? ToyFarce has got your back!

WHO TO ARMY BUILD?

In general, it makes more sense to army build characters that are soldiers, troops, clones, grunts,… It’s just more logical. Of course, you can buy whatever figure you want in large quantities and just army build Kickstarter Spawns or Marvel Legends Frog man, but it’s usually best to army build actual…armies.

HOW MANY?

An unwritten rule would say that anything over 3 is army building. If you bought only 2 stormtroopers for your collection, well, then you just bought 2 stormtroopers. If you have 3, 4, or 735, then it’s an army. In professional wrestling, when there’s only 2 guys teaming up, it’s called a tag team, but if they are 3 or more, it’s a faction. (Would collecting multiple of the same wrestler action figure called ‘Faction building’??)

WHY?

Because it’s fun! Also, well…it’s your collection. You kinda do what you want with it. But have you ever seen the Ninja turtles fight only one single Foot soldier? No. Have you ever seen the Power Rangers being attacked by a single Putty patroller? Nope. Would a single Stormtrooper stand a chance against the Rebels? NOPE. So having a small army of them (or a big one!) does make more sense.

IS IT EASY?

Unfortunately, it all depends on the availability. Some brands put their army building troops in two-packs, which makes it easier to gather more. If you want to army build NECA Foot soldiers, for example (sold in two-packs!), you might want to wake up early to hunt for them. If you collect GI Joe Classified figures and want an army of Cobra Vipers, well… You’d have more chance playing the lottery and winning. Some companies have decided that putting army builder figures as store exclusive was a smart move, and we all know how it ended…

Star Wars day (May, the 4th) was only a few days ago, and these 2 lego sets showed up at my door right on time! (Reviews are usually posted earlier, but I had not finished those 2 yet. Apologies for the delay! I’m sure plenty of collectors were worried about not seeing a review posted at the usual time, right?).

The Darth Vader box is slightly bigger than all the other ones.

I had already picked up the first 3 that came out last year (Boba Fett, a Stormtrooper and a Tie Fighter pilot) and had been blown away by the quality, size and fun aspect of those sets. Let’s get started with the Scout Trooper!

The Scout Trooper looks pretty good as a Lego! It took around 1h/1h30 to build, while watching TV. It would probably take a shorter time if you focus just on that. I like those Lego sets that can be done pretty fast! Now, it’s Vader time (the Darth one)!

Over the last week, a few mysterious listings have appeared on Amazon: several All Elite Wrestling products, but no pictures!

2 of them seem to correspond to the arrival of wave 5, but another listing lists ‘Battle packs’, as in two-packs! The other is listed as ‘Figures Stage’. Boy, we can’t wait to get some playsets. If they’re anything like the “Titantron entrance playset” from back in the days (the Jakks Pacific days), it will be really cool. We also need an updated “Trash Talking Stage”! That thing was amazing!

Do you remember it? I can still quote most of the lines…

Dr Britt Baker DMD has been trolling Jazwares and Jeremy Padawer on Twitter, saying that there will be an entire wave of Cody Rhodes before she gets her own action figure, but could she be onto something? Do check the entire Britt Baker / Jeremy Padawer feud on Twitter, it’s very entertaining. We really hope that they’re BFF in real life, though. Jeremy even teased a two-pack with the first-ever Britt Baker figure coming with a Cody figure and her reaction was priceless.

Here are a couple of Britt’s tweets to Jeremy:

A trusted source, Ryan C., told ToyFarce that one of the Battle Packs could very much be a Cody Rhodes two-pack, coming with 2 Cody Rhodes figures: One with his normal “American Nightmare” blond hair look, and one with a suit and black hair, like he had on TV for a couple of weeks. Would you buy a Cody Rhodes double pack?

But after Britt Baker’s feud on Twitter with Jazwares, ToyFarce has a hunch that one of the next announcement could very well be what she’s hoping for: An entire Dr. Britt Baker DMD wave. A “The Doctor will see you now” wave, if you will: 6 different outfits from her biggest matches in AEW, including 2 very bloody ones. You can even have the chase versions with her entrance jacket, and the rare version with the crutches or the wheelchair she used when injured. Think about it!

First, Mezco randomly sends an email saying ‘there will be a drop at 1pm EST today’. Then, at 1pm EST, most people don’t even check what the new item is, add it to their cart right away, and proceed to the cursed checkout. Then, a battle starts between collectors wanting to buy an item, a flimsy checkout system and a race against time against other collectors trying to do the same thing at the same time. A few will have a seamless checkout experience, entering their credit card number or paying with paypal, and successfully purchasing the item. For others, it’s another story, with a ‘runtime error’ or ‘credit card error’ message appearing several times. (Yes, this man mezcoes.). Soon enough, the item is on waitlist. Frustrated collectors who didn’t manage to get the item go on social media to vent. Erase. Rinse. Repeat at the next drop.

Mezco has now found a solution to avoid that whole painful process, and it will be to sell action figures that are pre-sold out. From now on, the figures will be announced in an email, then we will get a glorious review video of the figure by the great D_Amazing, to get that nice FOMO, and after that, the page will go live, and the item will be sold out right away! That way, nobody will get it, scalpers won’t be able to do their thing, collectors won’t get it either (but they’re used to it by now), and everybody will be happy.

It’s nice to see a brand listen to their fans like that! Now, if we could get that nice Batman 1989 One:12 collective figure…
