MCFARLANE TOYS KICKSTARTER REMASTERED SPAWN TRILOGY PACK!

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

Behold! Today, we’re checking the long awaited Kickstarter Remastered Spawn Trilogy Pack from McFarlane Toys. I had a lot of fun with it throughout the weekend, so check our social media or the hashtag #loveyoukickstarterspawn for all the shenanigans. But now, it was time to open it.

Obviously, here are the faces I made when opening it:

Here are some pictures of the packaging, which, as promised, was pretty freaking awesome. It really felt like opening something fancy, and now, I can’t go back to just opening normal blister cards. We have higher standards now, come on! Talking about blister cards, the blister card found inside the box is also a call-back to the original one from 1995, with the comic book and everything. Like a ‘retro’ Spawn figure, if you will! It is “collector-friendly”, which means easily resealable.

Here are the figures outside of the box! They’re heavier than i thought, but still have a good balance, thanks to the massive cape! (yeah, yeah, I know, it’s not removable)

CLASSIC SPAWN:

The classic Spawn comes with the classic costume (duh!). It’s a modern remastered version of the classic 1995 action figure (which you can see on a few pictures below). It’s a beautiful figure. That’s my opinion. Sure, the shoulders can’t move much because of the cape, aNd wE DiDn’T gET aN aB-cRuNcH (yells at the sky), but it still is a beautiful figure. The colors are great, with a nice contrast between the black/white and the bright red and green. It’s a great Spawn figure. I’m happy I got it. The screaming head is a bit meh, since it comes as a ‘block’ with the neck, but it’s a nice looking skull nonetheless. The trilogy pack version comes with a plethora of accessories too.

MODERN SPAWN

Modern Spawn comes with slight modifications to his suit, to look a bit more like the modern outfit (big glove, huge boot…). The weird thing is that the boot is on the wrong foot, and you would think that Todd McFarlane would know on which foot the big boot is supposed to be, but oh well! The unmasked head is gnarly AF, and looks awesome (McFarlane Toys knows how to do gnarly, see Tortured Souls, etc…). The Al Simmons head is also a great sculpt. Kinda look like a black Dominic Purcell (which I can’t unsee now), but it looks great on the figure (and it has a neck!). This one comes with a big gun that the other ones don’t have. Also a call-back to the original 1995 unmasked Spawn variant, which I also had, with pics added below.

ARTIST PROOF SPAWN

The Artist Proof Spawn is the ‘unpainted’ version. McFarlane Toys used to do that a lot in the past (the movie Spawn figure had an unpainted version like that too, which was given at the Cannes film festival, and I grabbed a bunch of them back then), so it made sense to have this one as a part of the set. It’s a great figure, in the sense that since it’s not painted, your eyes are drawn to all the details and the sculpt. It comes with its very own ‘necroplasm’ effect, and some of the other versions’ same accessories, but unpainted.

I’m pretty happy with the set (in case you couldn’t tell!). It will look awesome on a nice display (which I have yet to figure out), and I’m glad I participated in the Kickstarter campaign. All figures come with a stand that says “Record-setting action figure”, which is a nice touch. Gotta rub that in, right?

The Trilogy Pack also came with a signature plaque, from someone called Tord McForlove. Excellent job, Tord!

Todd McFarlane teased that the next Kickstarter project might be a Medieval Spawn. My body is ready!

NECA’S ALIEN ULTIMATE “BIG CHAP” + SDCC EXCLUSIVE GLOW-IN-THE-DARK VERSION!

Today is April, 26th, which means it’s Alien Day. Alien Day is celebrated by fans worldwide every year on April, 26th (4/26), which refers to LV-426, one of the three moons orbiting Calpamos in the Zeta Reticuli system, the same moon on which the UNSCC Nostromo landed in 2122 (or 1979, for us). Every year, a ton of new merch is announced for Alien Day: new action figures, books, t-shirts,... for all fans of Xenomorphs (or Weyland-Yutani) around the world.

And for that occasion, I picked the NECA Alien Ultimate “Big Chap” and its SDCC Glow-in-the-dark counterpart from my (depression) pile and finally opened them. Here are the pics!

Imagine, one of the characters you just bought might be their Jar Jar. Oh no… What are we gonna do? What do you think?

TARGET SOON TO HAVE “MAJOR BLUDD” ON THEIR HANDS!

A few days ago, a wild Major Bludd figure appeared, out of nowhere, on eBay (it was super effective!)…

The figure appeared, with pictures courtesy of Galactic Trade Ship (check out their facebook page!). Here are some of the pictures from the ebay listing, along with the description.

That sounds a bit suspicious, no?

So, in a totally predictable (and hilarious) way, this is what happened next: People started to troll the seller, and placed tons of bids on the item. It started at $0,01…

…then it got crazier…

…and crazier…

…AND CRAZIER…

… UNTIL CRAZINESS OVERLOAD!

The listing has since been removed, due to the insanity. Some people started suspecting that it could be a fake, or a nicely done custom… until Robo from The Fwoosh, a pretty reliable source on all things toys, along with Luke_figuremeout, a lesser known toy review page, started posting *IN HAND* reviews. Robo says that the figure came from their P.O. Box, more or less anonymously, and Luke_figuremeout says that any comment asking where it came from will be ignored… THE PLOT THICKENS. Here are the 2 videos…

So, obviously, people started speculating even more!

So far, there are only 3 or 4 in existence (or only 2, if the 2 ones seen in the ebay listing pics are the same one that ended in Robo and Luke’s hands). So what is it? A very elaborate prank? A very good customizer that managed to fool the entire toy community? A leak that blew out of proportion after the ebay listing? Either way, “Major Bludd” is everything that G.I.Joe collectors worldwide want right now…

And of course, it’s a Target Exclusive (Target being an affiliate of COBRA, see old article : https://www.toyfarce.com/news/target-revealed-as-part-of-cobra ). So, to reiterate that glorious pun from the title: Target will soon have “Major Bludd” on their hands, if the figure actually comes out. People will fight for it. The first listing on eBay nearly went for $25,000 (jokingly), so you can be sure that scalpers will try very hard.

This week, we’re looking at the 4th wave of Toony Terrors from NECA! It took me a while to get into those, but after I saw the first wave at my local Gamestop (RIP Gamestop, which are all gone in Northern Europe), I knew I had to pick them at some point. When series 4 was announced, I was super happy with the line-up.

Regan from the Exorcist, Beetlejuice from… Beetlejuice, Sam, the mascot from Trick ‘r treat, and Victor Crowley from Hatchet! Yes, please! Let’s dive into those individually

First off, the star of “The Exorcist”, Regan! Regan comes with an alternate head and her signature pea-soup-green vomit (Aaaaw, so cute!). The figure doesn’t have a lot of articulation (neck, arms and feet), but you don’t really get Toony Terrors figures for their articulations, now, do you? The cartoony likeness is great. To quote the Murderdolls, “Regan, it was love at first fright!”.

“BLEUAAARGH!”

“Your mother sucks c***s in hell!!”

Beetlejuice (that’s it, we said it 3 times now!), from the classic Tim Burton movie of the same name, does not come with any accessories, has an awkward pose and can’t really do much…but it’s Beetlejuice, so he will just look awesome on a shelf. Sometimes, less is more?

“I’m the ghost with the most!”

“IT’S SHOWTIME!”

Sam, the mascot from the cult classic horror anthology “Trick’r Treat” comes with an extra head, a lollypop and his bag of goodies (which might be human parts). The figure doesn’t need much to look great, and already looked cartoony to begin with, so it’s a win win for that one.

So cute!

Victor Crowley, from the ‘Hatchet’ movies comes with…a hatchet! (SO META!). A perfect cartoony depiction of the monster from the movies, his head, arms and right hand can move, which is enough. Kane Hodder, who played Jason in 4 of the ‘Friday the 13th’ movies, played Victor Crowley in all 4 ‘Hatchet’ movies.

The 5th wave included 2 repaints (Mike Myers from the latest Halloween movies, and a bloody Ash Williams from Evil Dead), along with the Creep from Creepshow and Ghostface from Scream. I might only pick the 2 new figures and skip the repaints, because I don’t have much space left on the shelf, and shelf real estate is a very expensive business these days (See previous post!).

After the amazing Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest event last week, the folks from the Marvel Legends Team did a round of interview with all the biggest names of the toy community. ShartimusPrime, MCUCollector24, Toy Bro, Pixel Dan, Dan Who, the Fwoosh, Kastor's Korner, Boog_ACBA, and several others had the opportunity to chat with Ryan Ting, Dan Yun and Dwight Stall from Hasbro about all things Marvel Legends. 

ToyFarce had the honor and privilege to get in touch with them too, and we had a lovely conversation about all the important subjects, like which weather they prefer, their favorite pets, favorite footballers, tastiest Doritos flavor, best 90’s cartoon, fanciest window coverings or what their favorite brands of breakfast cereal are. (Cinnamon Toast Crunch is our personal pick).

This week we’re checking out the latest Amazing Yamaguchi Revoltech DC Comics figure, the Clown Prince of Crime himself, the JOKER! “haHAHAhAhaha”. Here are some packaging shots:

The figure comes with an alternative head (maniacal laugh), 3 extra sets of hands, a cane, a ‘shattering teeth’ toy (a toy that comes with his own toy…gotta love it!), and surprisingly… Guns! 2 revolvers, 1 prop revolver, and 2 submachine guns (had to google that), with fire effects!

A great feature of that figure (outside of the ridiculous amount of articulations) is that the eyes can be moved on both headsculpts, using a tool that comes with the figure. Cross eyed Joker is now a possibility, folks!

Now, as always with Revoltech, the figure has articulations on top of articulations. If you suck at posing, like I do, this figure will be a pain in the ass to manipulate. I did what I could! Those figures are hyper-articulated, and each part can move pretty easily, and hold great. No QC issues there (*cough* take note, MAFEX *cough*).

“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Not sure if this figure was made before Warner/DC decided to remove guns from toys, or if there’s still a misunderstanding with the weapons being added to the figure, but not present on the promo pics, but his weapons are pretty great too. (Although, MAFEX did send an email saying the guns won’t be present with the Armored Batman and HUSH Joker later this year, so who knows…)

The stand allows more fun poses, or you can get your Joker airborne if you want to display him while punched by Batman.

“I should go and take more pictures of the Comissioner’s daughter…”

“Say cheeeeeese!”

“Remember when I removed my face, and wore it as a mask? Weird times…”

Here’s a display of the articlations when stretched to the max, which looks very painful.

“Well, well, well! Look who’s here…”

“Let your favorite clown give you a kiss… with his fists!”

“I just want to grab you…”

“…and bash your skull in!! Hahaha!”

“Whoops! That’s my cue! Bye, batsy!”

“Hahaha! I got you again with the oldest trick in the books! Seriously, it has to be the 1000th time by now!”

One of the coolest accessory are the “Haha!” bubbles that can be attached to his back (or on the stand), capturing that classing “The Killing Joke” look (which I have tattooed on my leg, humble brag).

The Revoltech figures are not for everyone, but look very nice on a shelf (#DetolfClub). Some don’t like the over-articulations, or the Japanese anime-like design on those, but if you can get past that, they are very cool figures (apart from Batman’s cape, which is shouldn’t have come in puzzle pieces, and still looks awful).

The Amazing Yamaguchi DC Comics figures (minus the ladies, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman)

A group of Jokers is called “a circus”. You heard it here first!

On Friday, Hasbro held their Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest, and boy oh boy, was it amazing! Tons of reveals, confiming that Hasbro is definitely 100% after our collective wallets. Fortnite, Power Rangers, Transformers, GI Joe, Marvel Legends, Star Wars,… Nothing was forgotten. Also, they had a panel of fans that included a lot of big names from the toy communuty, which was very awesome! Shartimus Prime, MCUCollector24, Toying Around, Adventures in Collecting Podcast, Kastor’s Korner, Dan Who, and many more were up there, on the screen during the event! (insert “Leonardo Dicaprio pointing at the TV” meme). There was one thing that especially caught our attention…

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, Jay and Silent Bob themselves, introduced the world to a game-changing 19-inch Transformer figure: An auto-converting Optimus Prime! Yes. Read that sentence again. Jay and Silent Bob announced a huge auto-transforming Optimus Prime figure. Did this really happen? Was it all a dream?! As a big fan of Kevin Smith, and a huge toy lover, I would have never thought something like that would happen before my eyes. If you went back in time 15 years ago, and told my younger self “Jay and Silent Bob will introduce a kick-ass Optimus Prime that has robot parts and can transform on its own”, I would have never believed you. Yet, here we are!

(The best part is that I tried to take many screenshots from the video, and they always looked exactly like I did while watching it)

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE HASBRO PULSE FAN FEST PREMIUM MEMBER PARTY!

Yesterday, on April 8th 2021, Hasbro Pulse held their first Premium member party, ahead of the Hasbro Fan Fest that will happen today (April 9th). Apparently, someone had left the door open, and the live stream was also available for non-premium members at some point. Here is what we learned during this live event!

STEVE EVANS IS AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING

Natural-born entertainer? Yes. British accent? Yes. Dad jokes? Heck yes! On top of having a very fun instagram account to follow (@mrstevie18), along with his “Mr Stevie’s Tall Toy Tales” show and his multiple giveaways, Steve was the host of the event. What could have looked like a boring ‘Apple iPhone reveal’ event ended up being very entertaining, and it’s all thanks to Steve. (Special shout out to his new friend, “Chad”! The people who know know.). Also, I will always use the word ‘drinkiepoo’ from now on.

TOYS REVEALS!

Not a lot of things were revealed yesterday, since the real big event is today. Only a couple of announcements: Marvel Legends Domino and Cannonball figures (with half of the internet saying it will be a two-pack, and the other half saying it will not). Also, there will be a fan-vote for the Star Wars: The Vintage Collection figures line, which will be between Clone Wars Ahsoka, Old Republic Trooper, Rogue One Tank Trooper, Extended Universe (Force Unleashed) Starkiller and ROTJ Weequay.

CARPET/TOWEL BACKGROUND DIORAMA COMING SOON FOR G.I.JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES?

You can be a very talented professional photographer for Hasbro (they pay him!), using nice lighting and intricate dioramas for the background of your pictures, and still have what looks like a towel or a carpet as a background for yourself! Carpet/towel diorama coming soon? All jokes aside, Cory was very interesting. We learned how he gets inspiration from the stories of the characters to make awesome pictures.

THE HASLAB SENTINEL CAN GO FULL-JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME!

The Marvel Legends team provided some updates on the Haslab Sentinel, which is a thing of beauty, and even gave one away to a lucky winner! During the update part, they’ve shown us the range of articulations, and it looks like your Sentinel can do the split (as long as you apologize for holding him by the crotch)! That’s super cool! Oh yeah, the guy from the Black Eyed Peas was there too.

THE CYBERTRON SPREE IS YOUR NEW FAVORITE BAND

At the end of the party, we enjoyed some music (what’s a party without music?), and for a lot of us, it was a first introduction to a band called ‘The Cybertronic Spree’, which is totally awesome. According to their own website: “These rockstars in disguise play music from The Transformers: The Movie, hit film and anime songs, and video game covers”, while rocking Transformers costume the entire time. Amazing!

AND FINALLY: THE CHAT WAS PURE 100% TOXIC ASS-JUICE

Wow. That was bad. Before the event even started, people were already in the chat being a**holes, insulting Hasbro and each other. When the event started, it was even worse. Kudos to Hasbro for closing that sh*t down really fast. The event was much more enjoyable without the “fans” crapping on the event, pretending to be other people (several Unparalleled Universe spotted!), trying to highjack it, and making it about themselves. It’s moments like this that make you ashamed to be a toy collector and be part of that crowd... In the future, maybe we could have the accounts linked to the event, so that the people responsible can be accountable and get their premium membership revoked or something? Anyway…
