BREAKING NEWS:
MORE TOY COMPANIES TO USE CROWDFUNDING AFTER MCFARLANE TOYS SPAWN KICKSTARTER ANNOUNCEMENT ?!
The New York Toy Fair is still ongoing and there has been a lot of
exciting announcements during the weekend! It seems tons of brands are
cashing in on one particular thing this year: Nostalgia! With several
brands bringing back the
3¾-inch figures from the past, others bringing us figures
like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in packaging that looks like the
ones from the past, or Power Rangers from the 90's, all those brands are
trying to touch our nostalgic nerve and get
us to buy reproductions of figures we already had 30 years ago.
But one particular announcement certainly did not go
unnoticed: Todd McFarlane, the "ToddFather" himself, announced his
project of a Kickstarter for a revival of the very first wave of Spawn
figures from 1995. The goal is to start a Kickstarter
for each figure from the set (Spawn, the Clown, Violator, Overkill,
Tremor, Medieval Spawn, and an unmasked version of the Spawn, with
trademarked 'hamburger-head'), and release them, with today's better,
upgraded scuplts, while selling them in the same packaging
the original figures had in 1995.
This idea hasn't fallen on deaf ears, as we got the scoop
that other toy makers will soon start their own crowdfunding venture.
"Todd McFarlane created a multi million dollar business and made a name
for himself, through his art, comic book stories
and McFarlane Toys, and he is now trying to relaunch Spawn using
Kickstarter? This is genius!" said one of the top Toy company
representants interviewed at the Toy Fair.
The early rumors ToyFarce News has managed to gather are:
- Howard Chan, from Hot Toys, thinks about starting a GoFundMe to help his multi million dollar brand release figures a bit faster than at current time.
- The toy
makers of Hasbro will soon start a Patreon, where they will release
pictures of the design, sculpting, prototype, all the processes to make a
figure with different levels of payments showing you more if you pay
more.
- IndieGogo has had conversations with the people from Funko, no details about the subject.
- Mattel to restart their 'MattyCollector' service as a paid subscription, with different tiers.
