MCFARLANE TOYS KICKSTARTER REMASTERED SPAWN TRILOGY PACK!

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

Behold! Today, we’re checking the long awaited Kickstarter Remastered Spawn Trilogy Pack from McFarlane Toys. I had a lot of fun with it throughout the weekend, so check our social media or the hashtag #loveyoukickstarterspawn for all the shenanigans. But now, it was time to open it.

Obviously, here are the faces I made when opening it:

PicsArt_11-14-03.41.30.jpg

Here are some pictures of the packaging, which, as promised, was pretty freaking awesome. It really felt like opening something fancy, and now, I can’t go back to just opening normal blister cards. We have higher standards now, come on! Talking about blister cards, the blister card found inside the box is also a call-back to the original one from 1995, with the comic book and everything. Like a ‘retro’ Spawn figure, if you will! It is “collector-friendly”, which means easily resealable.

Here are the figures outside of the box! They’re heavier than i thought, but still have a good balance, thanks to the massive cape! (yeah, yeah, I know, it’s not removable)

CLASSIC SPAWN:

The classic Spawn comes with the classic costume (duh!). It’s a modern remastered version of the classic 1995 action figure (which you can see on a few pictures below). It’s a beautiful figure. That’s my opinion. Sure, the shoulders can’t move much because of the cape, aNd wE DiDn’T gET aN aB-cRuNcH (yells at the sky), but it still is a beautiful figure. The colors are great, with a nice contrast between the black/white and the bright red and green. It’s a great Spawn figure. I’m happy I got it. The screaming head is a bit meh, since it comes as a ‘block’ with the neck, but it’s a nice looking skull nonetheless. The trilogy pack version comes with a plethora of accessories too.

MODERN SPAWN

Modern Spawn comes with slight modifications to his suit, to look a bit more like the modern outfit (big glove, huge boot…). The weird thing is that the boot is on the wrong foot, and you would think that Todd McFarlane would know on which foot the big boot is supposed to be, but oh well! The unmasked head is gnarly AF, and looks awesome (McFarlane Toys knows how to do gnarly, see Tortured Souls, etc…). The Al Simmons head is also a great sculpt. Kinda look like a black Dominic Purcell (which I can’t unsee now), but it looks great on the figure (and it has a neck!). This one comes with a big gun that the other ones don’t have. Also a call-back to the original 1995 unmasked Spawn variant, which I also had, with pics added below.

ARTIST PROOF SPAWN

The Artist Proof Spawn is the ‘unpainted’ version. McFarlane Toys used to do that a lot in the past (the movie Spawn figure had an unpainted version like that too, which was given at the Cannes film festival, and I grabbed a bunch of them back then), so it made sense to have this one as a part of the set. It’s a great figure, in the sense that since it’s not painted, your eyes are drawn to all the details and the sculpt. It comes with its very own ‘necroplasm’ effect, and some of the other versions’ same accessories, but unpainted.

I’m pretty happy with the set (in case you couldn’t tell!). It will look awesome on a nice display (which I have yet to figure out), and I’m glad I participated in the Kickstarter campaign. All figures come with a stand that says “Record-setting action figure”, which is a nice touch. Gotta rub that in, right?

PicsArt_04-28-04.24.21.jpg
The Trilogy Pack also came with a signature plaque, from someone called Tord McForlove. Excellent job, Tord!

Todd McFarlane teased that the next Kickstarter project might be a Medieval Spawn. My body is ready!

REVIEW: LONE COCONUT’S PLUNDERLINGS!

This week, we’re reviewing the awesome Plunderlings from Lone Coconut!

PicsArt_03-28-09.25.50.jpg

TOYFARCE REVIEWS:

LONE COCONUT'S PLUNDERLINGS!

It's Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

This week, we’re reviewing the awesome Plunderlings from Lone Coconut. Lone Coconut is a Dominican Republic-based award winning visual effects and animation studio (thank you, Google!) and last year, they launched a Kickstarter for the Plunderlings, their own IP, that took the toy collecting world by storm. “A little bit goblin, a little bit pirate, united with infectious charm. These greedy adorable pirates travel from island to island looking for treasure and mischief”, they’ve been the latest craze in the toy community and are more than worth the hype! There were 14 of them during the Kickstarter campaign + 2 “Fawns” that were released afterward.

First off, the packaging: A beautiful crate-like box, with a window in the front and at the top. The front part looks like their faces, with the window in the mouth. You can see the figure from the front , and the extra heads and accessories on the top. The boxes come with extra ears that you can attach (the ears are inside the box, so they won’t be damaged during transport, you can just add them yourself. Or not, if you don’t like fun!). Footprints are printed at the bottom, and you get a picture of your figure in the back (If i remember correctly, there’s some QR-code animation or something like that in the back too, but I haven’t tried that yet!)

PicsArt_03-28-09.50.16.jpg
PicsArt_03-28-09.50.36.jpg
PicsArt_03-28-09.51.13.jpg
PicsArt_03-28-09.51.00.jpg

The ingenious thing about them is that they are basically the same figure/mold for all of the 14 figures, but it’s the accessories and colors that give them their own personalities!

First, let’s check Raider Gank!

When I hear “Goblin”, I always see in my mind something green. Since the Plunderlings look like little goblins, I picked Gank, the green one with the accessories making him more “piratey”. And what can I say… This figure is a lot of fun! Gank comes with a bandana (all the head accessories have magnets in them, which is genius. F’ing magnets, how do they work?), a sword and a tiny crossbow/slingshot weapon. All Plunderlings come with 2 extra heads (smiling and mouth open), and extra hands to hold the accessories.

I had decided that I would pick 2, and the second one that caught my eye was Nomad Goyle, a blue/grey-ish Plunderling with a purple hood. There’s always something about characters with hoods, that makes them look cooler. And this one is purple! He comes with 2 daggers, and what looks like a dead-frog. So mischievous!

The articulations on those figures are incredible. I have played with them (a lot) when taking the pictures, and they really can be put in a lot of weird positions, which is amazing.

I will most likely be switching them around and putting them in various places in my displays, annoying other figures from other franchises. It’s great fun!

I have nothing but good things to say about those figures. They’re just awesome. I can’t wait to get a few more (I have a fawn on the way + a couple more coming later this year). Lone Coconut has also teased a few more figures (Plunderlongs, Plunderstrongs,…) which look fantastic. I also hope we’ll get some of the Kickstarter accessory packs and especially the hatchlings body down the line, so that we can display those extra heads too.

SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN! ASKING EVERYDAY “HAS ANYONE RECEIVED THEIR TOY YET?” MAKES IT ARRIVE FASTER!!

If your feed has been looking like that for a few weeks, do not adjust your monitor, it’s completely normal!

SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN: ASKING EVERYDAY “HAS ANYONE RECEIVED THEIR TOY YET?” MAKES IT ARRIVE FASTER!!

If your feed has been looking like that for a few weeks, do not adjust your monitor, it’s completely normal!

There are lots of people that ordered toys (for example, that Kickstarter Spawn) that are very excited and are getting so impatient that they feel the need to ask very often if other people have received theirs. Nobody really knows why, considering that if other people have indeed received theirs, their situation would not miraculously change, and they would still not have received their own. Some say it makes them feel better if other people got theirs, because they could be next in line (that never happened). But could asking “Has anyone received theirs?” often actually make your toy arrive faster?

A team of scientist from Wyoming got a very generous funding in order to start a research on that phenomenon, and their results will surprise you! Professor Kent Waite was interviewed by ToyFarce: “There is a correlation between asking that same question all the time, and the toys actually arriving faster. There is a lot of mathematics involved but we won’t go into that…” he said. “With my colleague, Professor Ian Michael Patient (aka Professor I.M.Patient), we are using Einstein’s theory of relativity, proving that the rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference, and when you spend your entire days bitchi…I mean, asking about your toy, time flows differently for you, and when you get your figure, it feels that less time has passed!”

You heard him, folks! So keep asking about your Kickstarter Spawn, or the tracking info about it! It will definitely make it arrive faster!

BREAKING NEWS:

THE BOGLINS COMING BACK THANKS TO KICKSTARTER - TEAM OF SCIENTISTS HIRED TO RECREATE THE ORIGINAL SMELL!

If you were a kid during the late 80’s/early 90’s, chances are you have already put your hand inside one of those rubbery, sticky, ugly-looking monsters (Wow, that came out wrong!). They were called the Boglins, and came in a packaging that looked like a cage, and were really fun. Well, thanks to Kickstarter, they are making a comeback, and better than ever!

05bfec9a82966661b9a726de142cac1a_original.png

Here is the video announcement from Tim Clarke, one of the creators of the original Boglins:

ToyFarce reached out, and asked a very important question to the Kickstarter team: How about the smell?? If you had a Boglin as a kid, or if one of your friend had a Boglin, you’ll know exactly what we are talking about. The Boglins had a very specific strong rubbery smell. Your hands would kinda stink too after playing with them, but it was totally part of the fun!

Well, it turns out there is an entire team of scientist that is working around the clock, trying to replicate that aroma, that scent, that stench from our childhood!

“Does it smell bad? - No. - Please, keep going.”

“Does it smell bad? - No. - Please, keep going.”

The Kickstarter, started by Chris Clofoni in collaboration with Tim Clarke and Maureen Trotto from the original team, has already reached its $25,000 goal, and is sitting around $126,000 at the moment of writing, with still 44 days to go. ToyFarce hopes the team all the success they deserve, and that the Kickstarter keeps shattering expectations, and that we will see (and smell!) more Boglins in the near future!

Go and support the Boglins revival here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ccofoni/boglins-world-domination

LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE LOCATION OF THE MCFARLANE TOYS PROMO PICS ROOFTOP!

If you have any information about the location of that rooftop, please let us know in the comments!

INVESTIGATIVE NEWS:

LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE LOCATION OF THE MCFARLANE TOYS PROMO PICS ROOFTOP!

Earlier last week, the McFarlane Toys Kickstarter Spawn action figure was nominated for “Toy of the Year 2020” on Toyawards.org. This was the perfect occasion for the Toddfather himself to release some new promo pics of the Kickstarter Spawn figure, which caught the attention of ToyFarce.

Spawn-Kickstarter-Production-Sample__scaled_600.jpg

After further inspection, it seems that the rooftop on which the Spawn figure appears to be is the same rooftop as the one where the Red (White) Knight Batman picture was taken earlier this year, which can only mean one thing:

There is a rooftop somewhere where the unreleased McFarlane Toys action figures are hanging around.

target-white-knight-batman-exclusive.jpg

If you have any information about the location of that rooftop, please let us know in the comments! ToyFarce would be happy to travel there and grab all the unreleased figures, and of course, share them with all of you! We will be waiting for your tips, which can remain anonymous if you prefer so! If we get enough informations, we will make a follow up article!

More news at 11:00… let the investigation begin!

LIST OF STRETCH GOALS FOR KICKSTARTER SPAWN REVEALED !

Todd McFarlane, and his brand McFarlane Toys, have started a kickstarter in order to remaster the very first action figure of Spawn, which was released in 1995.

EXCLUSIVE NEWS:

LIST OF STRETCH GOALS FOR KICKSTARTER SPAWN REVEALED !

In case you haven't heard of it, Todd McFarlane, and his brand McFarlane Toys, have started a kickstarter in order to remaster the very first action figure of Spawn, which was released in 1995. It took less than a couple of hours for the goal of $100,000 to be obliterated, and it now sits around at $1,800,000, with still 2 weeks to go.

Every once in a while, when the Kickstarter reaches a new 'milestone', Todd McFarlane, the Toddfather himself makes videos to thank the people for participating, and announces new rewards, in the form of more content for the figures. At $1,000,000, Todd announced that everybody would get extra hands and the people who ordered the 3-pack would get all the headsculpts. At $1,200,000, he announced the rubber chains of the figures would be upgraded to steel chains. At $1,400,000, 3 different weapons would be added to the 3-pack. Also, every figures would get a second headsculpt, as a token of his gratitude. Finally, at $1,700,000, the 'Modern Spawn' single figure will get an upgrade, a different spiked boot to reflect the look in the comic book, and the one from the 3-pack would get the spiked boot, along with a different arm!

ToyFarce News investigated day and night to try to find what the next rewards would be, and we have managed to get the scoop for you about what the next stretch goals will be:

- At $1,900,000: A new headsculpt, smiling "Handsome Al Simmons", with a big afro, will be added to the 3-pack. Also known as the 'Disco Al Simmons' sculpt.

- At $2,000,000: The wooden plank weapon will now be upgrade from plastic to actual wood. That's right, it will be a real piece of wood with a nail in it!

- At $2,250,000: Red clown noses will be added to the 3-pack. Two of them will be painted red, and the third one will be grey, to go with the unpainted figure.

- At $2,500,000: A Santa hat will be added to every figures, at every level. Also, the release dates will conveniently be delayed to december in order for the hat to make more sense.

- At $2,750,000: Todd McFarlane will add a cotton swab with his DNA on it to every levels of the Kickstaster.

- At $3,000,000: Todd McFarlane will give you a phone call to thank you himself for ordering the figures, if you ordered the 3-pack. He may also chat with you about a selection of different subjects, which will be revealed when the stretch goal is reached. (we have heard the weather could be one of the options!) (U.S. only).

- At $10,000,000: Todd McFarlane himself will deliver the figures in person to everybody, will come inside your home if invited, pet your dog, help himself in your fridge, and compliment your house decoration.

There might be more after that, but ToyFarce News would love to know what YOU would like to see as a stretch goal, for the upcoming McFarlane Toys Kickstarter Remastered Spawn figure. (Wrong answers only!)

JAWSOME 90'S FIGURES COMING BACK THANKS TO KICKSTARTER !

The American toy giant Mattel has started a campaign of their own, and it is a JAWSOME one

BREAKING NEWS:

JAWSOME 90'S FIGURES COMING BACK THANKS TO KICKSTARTER !

First of all, ToyFarce News would like to wish you a happy Easter!

The biggest story coming out of last week was the McFarlane Toys Spawn Kickstarter, a crowdfunding campaign to produce a remastered version of the very first Spawn action figure from 1997. The campaign was very successful, as it reached its $100,000 goal within minutes, and sits around $1,200,000 and counting, at time of writing.

This has shown other brands that there is a demand for remastered, revamped versions of our beloved 90's toys. This is why the American toy giant Mattel has started a campaign of their own, and it is a JAWSOME one: the first Street Sharks Kickstarter campaign!

Street Sharks was an animated series about crime-fighting half-men/half sharks that aired between 1994 and 1997. The most memorable things about Street Sharks were the amazing figures that came out of it. One of the best features of the figures was their 'real-feel shark skin', which was some sort of soft rubber, which made the figures really feel different.

The first figure to be re-released will be Ripster. As Vin Diesel said: "he's the leader of the Street Sharks, he's a great white, he's got real-feel shark skin, and his special power is the right-hand roundhouse punch. He sends the competition to a watery grave". To hear more about Street Sharks from Vin Diesel (we are not kidding), click here!

The packaging will be the exact same one as the original figures from 1994. If the first Street Sharks Kickstarter campaign is successful, Mattel is planning to release the 4 main characters (Ripster, Jab, Streex and Big Slammu) in their remastered, more jawsome, more articulated version, with even more real-feel shark skin!

MORE TOY COMPANIES TO USE CROWDFUNDING AFTER MCFARLANE TOYS SPAWN KICKSTARTER ANNOUNCEMENT ?!

This idea hasn't fallen on deaf ears, as we got the scoop that other toy makers will soon start their own crowdfunding venture.

BREAKING NEWS:

MORE TOY COMPANIES TO USE CROWDFUNDING AFTER MCFARLANE TOYS SPAWN KICKSTARTER ANNOUNCEMENT ?!

The New York Toy Fair is still ongoing and there has been a lot of exciting announcements during the weekend! It seems tons of brands are cashing in on one particular thing this year: Nostalgia! With several brands bringing back the 3¾-inch figures from the past, others bringing us figures like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in packaging that looks like the ones from the past, or Power Rangers from the 90's, all those brands are trying to touch our nostalgic nerve and get us to buy reproductions of figures we already had 30 years ago.

But one particular announcement certainly did not go unnoticed: Todd McFarlane, the "ToddFather" himself, announced his project of a Kickstarter for a revival of the very first wave of Spawn figures from 1995. The goal is to start a Kickstarter for each figure from the set (Spawn, the Clown, Violator, Overkill, Tremor, Medieval Spawn, and an unmasked version of the Spawn, with trademarked 'hamburger-head'), and release them, with today's better, upgraded scuplts, while selling them in the same packaging the original figures had in 1995.

This idea hasn't fallen on deaf ears, as we got the scoop that other toy makers will soon start their own crowdfunding venture. "Todd McFarlane created a multi million dollar business and made a name for himself, through his art, comic book stories and McFarlane Toys, and he is now trying to relaunch Spawn using Kickstarter? This is genius!" said one of the top Toy company representants interviewed at the Toy Fair.

The early rumors ToyFarce News has managed to gather are:

  • Howard Chan, from Hot Toys, thinks about starting a GoFundMe to help his multi million dollar brand release figures a bit faster than at current time.
  • The toy makers of Hasbro will soon start a Patreon, where they will release pictures of the design, sculpting, prototype, all the processes to make a figure with different levels of payments showing you more if you pay more.
  • IndieGogo has had conversations with the people from Funko, no details about the subject.
  • Mattel to restart their 'MattyCollector' service as a paid subscription, with different tiers.
