WHICH COLLECTOR FACTION DO YOU BELONG IN?
ToyFarce News loves all kinds of toy collectors, but toy collectors themselves definitely do NOT love all kinds of toy collectors. There has been several occurences of arguments or fights, whether in the Facebook, Youtube, Instagram or Twitter comment threads. Some collectors will tell others how they should display or handle their collection, even if they are not the ones who paid for it and are not part of those other person's lives.
In the last decade, collectors have been able to witness the formation of different factions, and chose which side they are on. ToyFarce news will now review the 4 major factions from the toy collectors world:
THE CARD FOUNDATION:
The Card Foundation (or Mint on Card Foundation) is for the collectors that keep all their figure mint on card, generally displayed on a wall, which is covered from floor to ceiling. The Card Foundation consider themselves the best collectors there is, the best collectors there was, and the best collectors there ever will be. Keeping an entire wall of blister cards, without ever thinking of opening them, requires a lot of discipline and mental strength, and that is what is needed to join the Card Foundation.
D-GENERATION SHELF:
The D-Generation Shelf (or D-SHELF) is a faction for the collectors that display everything that they own on shelves, whether those are wall shelves, floating shelves, book shelves (like on a BILLY bookshelf from Ikea),... They generally favor displaying their figures loose, but can also have a few blister cards or larger boxes displayed behind the loose figures. They are not worried about having to dust their collection every now and then. Sometimes, a figure would fall and cause a domino effect, leading to some of the figures to take a dive from the shelf towards the floor, but that's just one of the things that happens if you're D-SHELF. And if you're not down with that, they've got 2 words for ya... DUST IT!
THE NEW BOX ORDER:
The New Box Orded (or nBo) is a special kind of collectors. You might have seen collectors ask sellers 'Does it come with the shipping box?', especially in one sixth scale figure collectors groups. Those collectors will buy an expensive, high-end figure and will never a single time put their eyes on them. The visuals of the box is enough for them. Even better: the quality of the cardboard from the shipping boxes. They will go out of their way to find sellers that will 'double box' their figures, to make sure that the shipping box is in pristine condition. nBo members have pictures from their collection stored in a temperature controlled storage units, and will tell you that when you're nBo, you're nBo for life, BROTHER!
THE DETOLF CLUB:
The Detolf Club is a club of collectors who love to display their collection in glass cabinets (usually Detolf from Ikea, but it could be any other brand). They are not scared of opening their figures and display them in dynamic positions in their cabinets (which another faction, the
Museum Posers absolutely hates). True Detolf Club member will also have lights in their cabinets, and some will also have backgrounds or dioramas, to compliment their collections even more. For a Detolf Club member, it is a pleasure to just sit in front of their glass cabinets after a long day, and just admire their collection, taking it all in. There is something about it that is just too sweet...
Of course, there are tons of other factions, like
the Briq (lego collectors),
the Nation of Customization (who love to repaint/resculpt/kitbash/...),
the L.O.O.S.E. squad (who will always open their figures and #LetEmBreathe),
the SCALP (a faction of villains who will empty the toy aisle from their stores to sell everything at a higher price),
the Youtuberockers (who buy every single toy that come out for review, but you can clearly see that the passion is long gone), and many, many more...
