“STOP PUTTING TOYS IN THEM!”: AN INTERVIEW WITH SVEN IVAR DETOLF, THE INVENTOR OF THE DETOLF GLASS CABINET!

ToyFarce managed to get an exclusive interview with Sven Ivar Detolf, the inventor of the glass cabinet, and he had some sour words to say to all toy collectors!

TOYFARCE INTERVIEWS:

“STOP PUTTING TOYS IN THEM!”: AN INTERVIEW WITH SVEN IVAR DETOLF, THE INVENTOR OF THE DETOLF GLASS CABINET!

“With a glass-door cabinet, you can show off as well as protect your glassware or your favorite collection.” This is the official description of the Detolf glass cabinet on IKEA’s website. If you’re a toy collector, you’re most certainly familiar with those, as we’ve seen thousands of pictures of toy collection displayed in one or more Detolfs (Detolves?)

ToyFarce managed to get an exclusive interview with Sven Ivar Detolf, the inventor of the glass cabinet, and he had some sour words to say to all toy collectors!

ToyFarce: Hi Sven, and thank you so much for doing this interview with us.

Sven Ivar Detolf: Yes. Hi. (Reminder that Sven is Swedish, therefore has limited social skills)

ToyFarce: So, Sven, how did you come up with the idea of the Detolf glass cabinet?

Sven Ivar Detolf: Well, my wife had some nice bowls and vases that she kept in a cupboard, so we couldn’t see them. I asked her if she wanted a cupboard that would be made of glass, so that we could see the nice bowls and glassware, and she said yes. So, I invented it. Then, I gave it my name.

ToyFarce: Wow, that’s…a nice story? Anyway, how happy are you to know that to this day, your Detolf are still sought after, and even sometimes hard to find, because collectors worldwide are using them to display there most precious items?

Sven Ivar Detolf: I DON’T LIKE IT.

ToyFarce: Oh…?

Sven Ivar Detolf: It’s not what I designed it for! It’s made to display bowls, vases and other glassware. Stop putting toys in them! They’re not made for that. Have you seen the promotional pictures? There’s bowls and glassware in them! Nothing else! Maybe trophies, sometimes, but even that is already too much!

ToyFarce: But surely, you can appreciate that some people come up with some great displays, adding lights and backgrounds to show off their most precious items, no?

Sven Ivar Detolf: I don’t care! Get out of my house.

So… this didn’t go well. We haven’t heard of Sven Ivar Detolf since, but an anonymous source told us that it’s not a coincidence that some of our Detolf glass cabinet sometimes “accidentally explode” when we put toys in them. ToyFarce will investigate more on that!

IKEA AND LEGO FINALLY ADMIT THAT THEY ADD EXTRA PIECES IN EVERY BOX, JUST TO MESS WITH US!

BYGGLEK is the very first collaboration between IKEA, the giant Swedish furniture maker, and Lego, the giant Danish toymaker.

BREAKING NEWS:

IKEA AND LEGO FINALLY ADMIT THAT THEY ADD EXTRA PIECES IN EVERY BOX, JUST TO MESS WITH US!

BYGGLEK, the very first collaboration between IKEA, the giant Swedish furniture maker, and Lego, the giant Danish toymaker, is expected to be available later this week, on October 1st 2020.

How a collaboration between the 2 has not happened before, I do not have a clue. They both basically sell a product that you have to build yourself at home, so it doesn’t make sense that they waited for 2020 to finally decide on a partnership. They could have at least made the double-decker couch from the movie!

“Introducing the new BYGGLEK collection – a set of simple storage solutions and a unique set of LEGO® bricks exclusive to IKEA, that inspire kids' imagination.”

“Introducing the new BYGGLEK collection – a set of simple storage solutions and a unique set of LEGO® bricks exclusive to IKEA, that inspire kids' imagination.”

However, it was not without some controversy! ToyFarce managed to uncover a press release that was never published that mentioned that both brands share more than just products that you have to build:

They both add a few extra pieces in every box, “just to confuse the hell out of people” !

Have you ever built an IKEA Billy or Detolf to display your collection, and once it’s all done, you are left with a handful of screws and those weird long wood thingies? Do you remember building a nice Lego Star Wars set and feeling puzzled at the end of it because there is still a dozen tiny pieces left that have nowhere to go? Well, it turns out it was all on purpose!

There is even a legend that says that if you gather all the extra pieces from all the sets, you can build the ultimate secret set that nobody knows about…

Will you be picking up the BYGGLEK IKEA/Lego sets? What are your plans for it? Let us know in the comments!

MISB COLLECTOR LIVES EVERYDAY LIFE... MISB ?!

There are tons of different toy collectors. Some open their figures and display them 'loose', while others keep their entire collections 'MISB' (mint in sealed box).

FEATURED COLLECTOR:

MISB COLLECTOR LIVES EVERYDAY LIFE... MISB ?!

There are tons of different toy collectors. Some open their figures and display them 'loose', while others keep their entire collections 'MISB' (mint in sealed box). ToyFarce News had the opportunity to interview Sebastian, an in-box collector who took it a bit to the extreme...

ToyFarce News:
Sebastian, thank you for having us in your home for this interview. I can see a lot of boxes in your living room...

Sebastian:
Yes. As an in-box collector, I keep everything in the box. I have a huge collection of Hot Toys figures, that I keep in the box. I have never seen the figures. I've just never removed them from the box. I keep everything protected and pristine in the box. Also, my sofa and television are still in the cardboard boxes they came with, I have Ikea furniture still in the cardboard boxes, my bed and bedside table, etc... This is how I prefer it.

ToyFarce News:
What started all this?

Sebastian:
When I was a child, I didn't have a lot of toys. When I went to a friend's home, I would see all his action figures that he played with, he had them loose, and I thought it was wrong. The toys are supposed to be kept in their boxes, sealed, for additional value.

ToyFarce News:
How is Sebastian's every day life?

Sebastian:
I'm just like anybody else. I wake up on my bed, which is still in the plastic wrap, I turn off my alarm clock on my bedside table (still in the box). Then, I take a look at my amazing collection that is still in pristine condition in the boxes, before going on with my day. I might order a few figures during that day, knowing, of course, that i will never see them, because I will keep them MISB. I also cook my food MISB, it's the only way that I am sure to get all the nutrients from the box.

How about you, are you an in-box collector or do you open your figures? Let us know in the comments!

WHICH COLLECTOR FACTION DO YOU BELONG IN?

ToyFarce News loves all kinds of toy collectors, but toy collectors themselves definitely do NOT love all kinds of toy collectors.

FEATURED ARTICLE:

WHICH COLLECTOR FACTION DO YOU BELONG IN?

ToyFarce News loves all kinds of toy collectors, but toy collectors themselves definitely do NOT love all kinds of toy collectors. There has been several occurences of arguments or fights, whether in the Facebook, Youtube, Instagram or Twitter comment threads. Some collectors will tell others how they should display or handle their collection, even if they are not the ones who paid for it and are not part of those other person's lives.
In the last decade, collectors have been able to witness the formation of different factions, and chose which side they are on. ToyFarce news will now review the 4 major factions from the toy collectors world:

THE CARD FOUNDATION:

The Card Foundation (or Mint on Card Foundation) is for the collectors that keep all their figure mint on card, generally displayed on a wall, which is covered from floor to ceiling. The Card Foundation consider themselves the best collectors there is, the best collectors there was, and the best collectors there ever will be. Keeping an entire wall of blister cards, without ever thinking of opening them, requires a lot of discipline and mental strength, and that is what is needed to join the Card Foundation.

D-GENERATION SHELF:

The D-Generation Shelf (or D-SHELF) is a faction for the collectors that display everything that they own on shelves, whether those are wall shelves, floating shelves, book shelves (like on a BILLY bookshelf from Ikea),... They generally favor displaying their figures loose, but can also have a few blister cards or larger boxes displayed behind the loose figures. They are not worried about having to dust their collection every now and then. Sometimes, a figure would fall and cause a domino effect, leading to some of the figures to take a dive from the shelf towards the floor, but that's just one of the things that happens if you're D-SHELF. And if you're not down with that, they've got 2 words for ya... DUST IT!

THE NEW BOX ORDER:

The New Box Orded (or nBo) is a special kind of collectors. You might have seen collectors ask sellers 'Does it come with the shipping box?', especially in one sixth scale figure collectors groups. Those collectors will buy an expensive, high-end figure and will never a single time put their eyes on them. The visuals of the box is enough for them. Even better: the quality of the cardboard from the shipping boxes. They will go out of their way to find sellers that will 'double box' their figures, to make sure that the shipping box is in pristine condition. nBo members have pictures from their collection stored in a temperature controlled storage units, and will tell you that when you're nBo, you're nBo for life, BROTHER!

THE DETOLF CLUB:

The Detolf Club is a club of collectors who love to display their collection in glass cabinets (usually Detolf from Ikea, but it could be any other brand). They are not scared of opening their figures and display them in dynamic positions in their cabinets (which another faction, the Museum Posers absolutely hates). True Detolf Club member will also have lights in their cabinets, and some will also have backgrounds or dioramas, to compliment their collections even more. For a Detolf Club member, it is a pleasure to just sit in front of their glass cabinets after a long day, and just admire their collection, taking it all in. There is something about it that is just too sweet...

Of course, there are tons of other factions, like the Briq (lego collectors), the Nation of Customization (who love to repaint/resculpt/kitbash/...), the L.O.O.S.E. squad (who will always open their figures and #LetEmBreathe), the SCALP (a faction of villains who will empty the toy aisle from their stores to sell everything at a higher price), the Youtuberockers (who buy every single toy that come out for review, but you can clearly see that the passion is long gone), and many, many more...

ToyFarce News would like to know about you: Which faction do you belong in?

HOT TOYS AND IKEA TEAM UP TO MAKE ONE SIXTH SCALE DETOLF GLASS CABINETS !

Every action figure and toy collector knows about the IKEA Detolf glass cabinet.

BREAKING NEWS:

HOT TOYS AND IKEA TEAM UP TO MAKE ONE SIXTH SCALE DETOLF GLASS CABINETS !

Every action figure and toy collector knows about the IKEA Detolf glass cabinet. Most collectors have (or at least had) a few of those, which are great to display your collection. The affordable glass cabinet from the famous Swedish brand is a must-have for any collector.

But who has never fantasized about having one sixth scale Detolf glass cabinets for their one sixth scale figures? Well, thanks to a partnership between Hot Toys and IKEA, it will soon no longer be a fantasy, and your collection will be able to have its own collection !

An insider source has told ToyFarce News that the one sixth scale Detolf glass cabinets will soon be announced, so that your one sixth scale figures can finally display their items, such as the Hot Toys Box Art Magnets, which are one sixth scale versions of the Hot Toys figures art boxes, so that your figures can have them too. Imagine having your Infinity War Thor and Black Widow in your Detolf, displaying their own versions of the Infinity War Thor and Black Widow Art Boxes in their own Detolf!

No words yet if the IKEA patented 'random glass explosion' feature will be added to one out of 100,000 glass cabinets, but we certainly hope Hot Toys will strive for accuracy and add that to their line as well.
