The S.C.A.L.P. industry held an emergency meeting this week after suffering devastating blows the entire month. They had an international conference call to try to figure out what their next move should be.

This week, we’re looking at the Junji Ito Collection Pop figures from Funko. I know, I know, Funko Pops are the devil and should not ever be brought up. On the other hand, this is the only easily available Junji Ito merch (apart from a few expensive designer toys) , and I was not gonna skip on those! Who’s Junji Ito, you ask? Only one of the greatest masters of horror manga! I discovered Junji Ito through a friend (thanks, Hugo!) who told me to read Uzumaki over a decade ago. My mind was blown and I needed to get my hands on everything that this man had written (even the cute story about his cats!). Here’s a sample…

During Comic Con 2020, a single Funko Pop figure from Junji Ito was announced, Souichi Tsujii, along with his voodoo doll and candles on his head. I got it right away, as there is not really any other merch available, and he would look nice on the shelf next to the books. Then, later, Funko announced a whole wave of other characters: Tomie, Yuuko, the model Miss Fuchi and another Souichi figure. And here they are!

Crunchyroll did an anthology series about some of the best short stories, hence their logo

Let’s see those characters in the books…
Tomie, from the book of the same name, is a girl that never seems to stay dead. She was killed on her way back from school, found in a dozen pieces, and came back to school the next day, as if nothing happened. In the books, she manipulates men to do her bidding, and is most likely possessed by an evil entity.
Yuuko, from the story “Slug girl”, she wore a face mask not to protect herself from a virus, but to hide what was inside her mouth…
Miss Fuchi, from the story “Fashion Model” where a young director is looking for a model for a movie he is about to shoot, but ends up finding Fuchi, who has a horrible face, but he somehow cannot get her out of his head. She ends up eating her co-star during the shooting. YAY!
Souichi, or “that little shit” as I like to call him. There are many stories featuring Souichi who tries to scare his schoolmates, but most of his schemes and tricks always end up backfiring on him.
Bonus: the 2020 Fall Convention exclusive Souichi Pop figure. He always has nails in his mouth because of an iron deficiency in his body. He also sometimes shoots them.
Who said Funko Pops couldn’t be creepy?
Crunchyroll is developping a Uzumaki animated series which should come out in 2022. Hopefully, that means more toys!

Comic Con week is finally over and our collective wallets can now have a sigh of relief! ToyFarce hopes everyone managed to get their pre-orders/orders in for everything they wanted! Talking about pre-orders (SEGWAY!), some drama occured in Japan over the weekend, here’s the recap:
FRIDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY SUPPORTS SCALPERS
Bandai drops several Gundam model kits for pre-orders online, and they all inevitably sell out in seconds. So far, nothing out of the ordinary, we’ve seen how it goes. But an employee of the editorial team of the hugely popular japanese toy magazine, Hobby Japan, decided to go to twitter to make fun of the collectors that didn’t manage to get their model kits. Smart move!
The employee basically said “People who didn’t get a pre-order for their figures lack determination, and therefore, are not real fans. The real fans don’t see any issue with paying more to scalpers, because it is their true passion.” Basically, according to him, if you have a problem with having to pay double or triple the retail price to scalpers for a toy, you’re not a real fan. His words, not mine.
SATURDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY APOLOGIZES
After probably being contacted by his work, the Hobby Japan employee tweeted an apology for what he said the previous day.
SUNDAY: The magazine Hobby Japan themselves published an apology, asking people to forgive them for what their employee said…
MONDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY FIRED
Said employee was let go by Hobby Japan.
Morale of the story: Don’t post stupid things on Twitter if you live in Japan (and don’t support scalpers!).

HASLAB GALACTUS STRETCH GOAL LEAKED?!
It’s Comic Con week and our collective wallets have been tombstone piledrived into oblivion, as all our favorite brands announced, revealed and released some awesome toys. One of last week’s biggest reveals (litteraly!) was the new HasLab project, Galactus, towering at 32 inches tall. The project needs 14,000 backers to be fully funded and is now closing in on 8700 backers (at time of writing). The HasLab project will end on August 30th.
Once the project is fully funded, the Marvel Legends team announced that there will, of course, be stretch goals. What could they be? A disgruntled employee sent ToyFarce the scoop! (How do all those disgruntled employees keep getting our email address??)
Once the project is fully funded, Galactus will get his bib to be able to devour planet without making a mess on his suit.
Revealed by @thegreattonino , some of the other stretch goals will be 6” figures. Can you guess who?
16,000 backers: Keep the good habits with the Intergalactic hand sanitizer! It would be a shame to catch a nasty virus from one of those planets…
18,000 backers: The Planet Menu. “I’m famished! What am I going to eat today?”

This week, on monday, NECA did their Comic Con Panel and announced a ton of new stuff, including this year’s SDCC Exclusives (A huge set with the TMNT reporter team!! Flash Gordon and Ming in retro packaging!!). I felt it was maybe time to review LAST YEAR’s SDCC Exclusive, which had been sitting on my pile for months. Finally! When the first promo pics of this set came out last year, it was so outrageous, ridiculous and weird that I knew I 100% wanted it. After ordering it on the NECA store seconds after pre-orders were open, getting my order cancelled 2 months later, randomly, by NECA, and then asking a good friend to hook me up if he saw one while they were at Target, I finally got my hands on one earlier this year. Was it worth the wait? SHELL YEAH!

The 4 turtles come with a sleeveless jean jacket (in case you weren’t sure they were from the 90’s), their instruments and extra hands. A few things in this set are really strange though, like the shoes! Turtles in shoes! ARGH!
My reaction when seeing the shoes: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Their feet wouldn’t fit in those!
The faces, also, might cause you to feel really bad on the inside and you’re not sure why.

Earlier this year, we introduced to you the Figure Sauna™ (article here: https://www.toyfarce.com/news/introducing-the-figure-sauna ). Now that we’re well into the summer, and that the heatwaves keep coming at us, an ingenious collector found a new solution to joint stiffness in action figures using only on thing: your automobile!
Pictures you can feel. You could probably crack an egg on those cars and cook it: ROAD SNACK!
Special thanks to @cr33pynj for this tip (or “the other Dave” as he was introduced to us): The last time Dave bought a NECA figure, he noticed that after leaving it in his car that had been under a scorching sun for hours, the figure came out right off the box without a single articulation issue. All the joints were ready for movement, and there was no need to use the traditional “boiling water” or “hair dryer” trick.
Soon, we will see this kind of note, but there will be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles two-pack instead.
DISCLAIMER: Do not leave your toy in the car for more than 10-15 minutes. Usually, the car ride home from the superstore/comic book store should be enough to loosen the joints (suspiciously). It has not been tested yet, but leaving a NECA figure for hours in a car under a scorching sun could do permanent damage to your figure.

When a dinosaur figure comes out with a human arm to munch on as an accessory, well… that arm belonged to an action figure! We must not let this massacre continue.
The McFarlane Toys single release of King Shark from Suicide Squad comes with an arm and a leg. If the figure becomes hard to find, it will also cost an arm and a leg.

McFarlane Toys was already using body parts in 2013, with one of his early Walking Dead figures (Penny Blake, comic book series, wave 2) actually coming with a BUCKET full of body parts. 3 heads, hands, feet, arms… THIS SLAUGHTER NEEDS TO STOP!

THREEZERO’S DOROHEDORO CAIMAN AND SHIN (ANIME VERSION)!

This week, we’re checking the Dorohedoro one sixth scale figures from ThreeZero, the anime version of Caiman and Shin! Dorohedoro is a manga and anime series written by Q. Hayashida. The Netflix show was pretty great and had awesome designs and soundtrack. When Threezero announced they were going to do figures from the anime, I jumped right in and pre-ordered them (I had missed the manga version of Caiman because I didn’t know the manga yet).
Simple packaging
Inside
Caiman is a BIG BOI. Seriously. He is now one of the tallest 1/6th scale figure I own (if not the tallest). He comes with knives, extra hands, and a different unmasked head with interchangeable parts for different expressions. The figure has great articulations, even though the pants have some padding inside which blocks the leg movements (which can be totally fixed if you do some surgery and remove some of it).

Shin is a more simple figure, with a normal body, a nicely tailored suit (dirty), his unmasked head, extra hands, and his trusted hammer.
Here’s SHIN!
I do not imagine a lot of people display him with his unmasked head. It’s a nice head, and looks just like him in the anime, but the “heart” mask head just looks better.
The tailoring on the suit is amazing. He even has a small wallet-chain, to show that he’s cool!
LOOK AT THEM JAYS! (Yes, I’m one of the cool kids and speak “sneakers”).
The last thing you see before having a hammer-sized hole in your forehead.
Nice details on the body, since Shin was put back together in the manga/anime (Only painted on the hands, though).

ThreeZero already announced another character from the show, Ebisu, which should come out later this year. Other brands are starting to get on that franchise, as Good Smile Company has announced a Nendoroid Gyoza fairy. Sentinel has also announced sets of 1/12 scale figures from the anime, which are basically two-packs, but the second character is an unarticulated accessory, which is a weird choice. Also, they cost more than those 1/6 figures, so I will stick to the 1/6 ones, thank you very much. ThreeZero killed it!

“First, you need a great intro. ‘Hey guys, this is x and welcome to my show where I do this and that, and blahblah’, an intro that you will repeat every single time, that your guests will have to sit through and that your followers will know by heart. For most toy youtubers, it all starts with reviews. A lot of reviewers make the mistake of doing their review in front of a very white, sterile background, with oversaturated lights, in a lightbox like so many already do. By doing that, unfortunately, you show the entire world that you have no personality. It’s better to have a color as a background, but you have to pick it right! Fwoosh has blue, ToyBro has orange, Unparalleled Universe has purple… you need to pick a color that hasn’t been picked yet! How about Magenta, cyan, or navy blue?”
You get 100,000 more views if you have the right thumbnail!
“It’s important that you review everything that you can get your hands on, because you’re an influencer now, and there are people that are waiting for your opinion on a figure before buying it, so you can’t make them wait! Bonus points if you don’t even know the franchise but still review the figures: Your passion for everything you loved will end up fading away anyway, so review things you don’t have any feelings for early on!”.

“After a while, when you’ve got enough of a following, you can do other things than reviews, like previews! When a brand announces something and post a promo picture, you can then make a 19 minute video where you talk about that promo picture. You can also do “hit or miss”, “dope or nope”, “crack or wack” or any variation of it, where you just tell people if a figure is good or bad, in a completely subjective manner.”

“When you have no content, it is important to still fill the room with noise, so don’t hesitate to post as many Top 5, Top 10, Top 12 as possible, unnecessarily long hauls, along with ‘Collection room tours’. You can even shoot multiple room tours during the same day, you just have to hide a couple of figures from your display, film your tour, then put the figures back and film another tour! It’s common knowledge that everybody wants to watch 25min videos of someone else’s home. Remember MTV Cribs? Show your followers your collection room. It’s where the magic happens!”

Over the last few days, Target held its Summer Geek-Out event, where the would sell various items from their ‘Collector’s Spot’ selection.

TARGET’S SUMMER GEEK-OUT - THE SCALPING INDUSTRY IS IN SHAMBLES!
Over the last few days, Target held its Summer Geek-Out event, where the would sell various items from their ‘Collector’s Spot’ selection. This is an event aimed at us, the toy collectors, where they had many highly sought-after items back in stock. One specific thing caught the entire toy community’s attention, as they announced that all the G.I.Joe Classified Series Cobra Island figures (you know, the Target exclusive ones…the ones we poke fun at on a regular basis!) would be back up for order.
I like the “Last chance” part, basically saying “It’s on you if you don’t get them!”
Needless to say, thousands of Joe fans rushed to Target’s website/app to try to get their order in (and obviously, it didn’t go without any issue, and people reported getting error messages when adding items to their cart, but it seems that it was ironed out pretty fast and tons of collectors managed to secure their order). On wednesday morning, at 9am EST (6am PST lol), the Cobra Island Roadblock, Beachhead, Firefly, Cobra trooper and the likes found their way back on Target’s website, and on thursday morning at the same time, the Baroness set and the Cobra Viper were available for all to order. So, if you are in the west side of the US, and one of your colleagues looked tired on wednesday and thursday, you now know why!
This chain of event had huge ramifications on the scalping industry, which had used the Target exclusive G.I.Joe Classified series figures as their bread and butter for the past year…
Sure… They killed the line by enabling people to buy them.
An anonymous member of the S.C.A.L.P. commented: “How could they do that to us? You don’t understand! It was going so well, we had a network of Target employees getting us entire boxes of them, so that we could resell them at 4-5 times the retail price. And now, it’s all ruined! People will be able to get those figures at a normal price. When you add that to the fact there were no Comic Con the last 2 years for us to snag the exclusives from and make a mint from them, we may never recover financially from this. We will have to start a GoFundMe page for scalpers…”
