THE MYSTERY OF “MARVEL LVL LEGENDS INFINITY 10 AVN4”

Less than 24h ago, Amazon added a listing called “Marvel MVL Legends Infinity 10 AVN4”, with the Hasbro (Haspartner?) logo as a picture…

Screenshot_20210315-165406__01.jpg

The listing comes with a vague description about Marvel and Hasbro, and not a single element could help identify who or what the listing is actually selling. We’ll brush over the fact that it is now the #1 Best Seller in the “Action Figures” category, but…yeah, it is now the #1 Best Seller in the “Action Figures” category. Gotta love them collectors! (UPDATE: Just before publishing, it now appears as “Temporarily out of stock”!)

Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SQF799Y/

ToyFarce had to bribe a few Amazon employees, but managed to get a bit of information just for you… Allegedly, the listing might end up being the long awaited, fan-favorite, true hero from the Avengers: Endgame movie… The one that started a chain of events that lead to the defeat of Thanos in the movie that made $2,798 billion, the last chapter of the Infinity Saga, "Avengers: Endgame"… That’s right, we are talking about Marvel’s The Rat, coming with Luis’van!

This will be the picture on the listing, once uploaded!

This will be the picture on the listing, once uploaded!

At last, fans will be able to display their entire Marvel Legends Avengers team alongside the true hero that lead them to victory. Marvel's The Rat will also come with Luis' van, the instrument that enabled him to help the Avengers fight Thanos, by releasing Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) while running accross the Quantum Realm machine, and therefore, SAVING THE UNIVERSE. No release date announced at this time.

“STOP PUTTING TOYS IN THEM!”: AN INTERVIEW WITH SVEN IVAR DETOLF, THE INVENTOR OF THE DETOLF GLASS CABINET!

ToyFarce managed to get an exclusive interview with Sven Ivar Detolf, the inventor of the glass cabinet, and he had some sour words to say to all toy collectors!

PicsArt_03-12-11.00.04.jpg

TOYFARCE INTERVIEWS:

“STOP PUTTING TOYS IN THEM!”: AN INTERVIEW WITH SVEN IVAR DETOLF, THE INVENTOR OF THE DETOLF GLASS CABINET!

“With a glass-door cabinet, you can show off as well as protect your glassware or your favorite collection.” This is the official description of the Detolf glass cabinet on IKEA’s website. If you’re a toy collector, you’re most certainly familiar with those, as we’ve seen thousands of pictures of toy collection displayed in one or more Detolfs (Detolves?)

det1.PNG

ToyFarce managed to get an exclusive interview with Sven Ivar Detolf, the inventor of the glass cabinet, and he had some sour words to say to all toy collectors!

ToyFarce: Hi Sven, and thank you so much for doing this interview with us.

Sven Ivar Detolf: Yes. Hi. (Reminder that Sven is Swedish, therefore has limited social skills)

ToyFarce: So, Sven, how did you come up with the idea of the Detolf glass cabinet?

Sven Ivar Detolf: Well, my wife had some nice bowls and vases that she kept in a cupboard, so we couldn’t see them. I asked her if she wanted a cupboard that would be made of glass, so that we could see the nice bowls and glassware, and she said yes. So, I invented it. Then, I gave it my name.

ToyFarce: Wow, that’s…a nice story? Anyway, how happy are you to know that to this day, your Detolf are still sought after, and even sometimes hard to find, because collectors worldwide are using them to display there most precious items?

Sven Ivar Detolf: I DON’T LIKE IT.

wym26xx61ob31.jpg
51736b1f236ec0a602cae7af009ee639.jpg

ToyFarce: Oh…?

Sven Ivar Detolf: It’s not what I designed it for! It’s made to display bowls, vases and other glassware. Stop putting toys in them! They’re not made for that. Have you seen the promotional pictures? There’s bowls and glassware in them! Nothing else! Maybe trophies, sometimes, but even that is already too much!

ToyFarce: But surely, you can appreciate that some people come up with some great displays, adding lights and backgrounds to show off their most precious items, no?

Sven Ivar Detolf: I don’t care! Get out of my house.

So… this didn’t go well. We haven’t heard of Sven Ivar Detolf since, but an anonymous source told us that it’s not a coincidence that some of our Detolf glass cabinet sometimes “accidentally explode” when we put toys in them. ToyFarce will investigate more on that!

HOT TOYS THE MANDALORIAN & THE CHILD (DELUXE VERSION)!

It’s wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

This week, we’re reviewing the Deluxe version of The Mandalorian & The Child from Hot Toys. Yep. The figure was ordered on KGHobby as soon as it was announced, and arrived last week. As expected, it is a gorgeous piece! What it is lacking in articulations and poseability (the suit gets in the way a lot), it makes up for it with how amazing it looks. Two Grogu/Baby Yoda (yes, two!), tons of great accessories and possibilities, , it’s a very, very nice set!

ALL THE BRANDS NOW WANT FORTNITE TOO, BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT?

BREAKING NEWS:

ALL THE BRANDS NOW WANT FORTNITE TOO, BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT?

In case you have been living in a cave for the last few years, Fortnite is an online free-to-play multiplayer battle royale video game by Epic Games that took the gaming world by storm. Whether you’ve played it or not, you have to have at least heard of it. The characters are wacky, and very toyetic, so much so that in 2019, 2 brands were already producing toys for the franchise.

In the beginning of 2019, Jazwares started releasing multiple action figure lines: 4” figures, “Legendary” 6” figures, accessory sets, blind bags, plushes, you name it. You’ve probably seen those in your toy section.

s-l640.jpg
81l8DRHNimL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
61tB4OZO1oL._AC_SX425_.jpg

Later in 2019, McFarlane Toys also announced that they were going to make figures for Fortnite, and out came a few waves of nice articulated action figures.

BigMouth_01.jpg

As the game grew bigger and bigger, with tons of character skins now coming from pop-culture (such as Marvel, DC, movies,…), it didn’t take long before another brand would announced the acquisition of the Fortnite franchise. A few weeks ago, Hasbro announced that they would start to produce Fortnite action figures as well, so we are now having 3 amazing brands producing toys from the same thing. What is interesting with Hasbro is that they are also partners with other franchises, such as Marvel or Star Wars, which also had skins in the games, which means that maybe someday, we could see Fortnite figures of those characters too.

Hasbro-Fortnite__scaled_800.jpg
Hasbro first announced a Fortnite Snake Eyes figures, before announcing that there were plans for more.

Hasbro first announced a Fortnite Snake Eyes figures, before announcing that there were plans for more.

ToyFarce did some digging and professional journalism…things, and it turns out that there might be more coming in the future! Brands like Mattel, Playmates, NECA, Bandai, and even Playmobil are looking into acquiring the coveted franchise. Since it seems they don’t do exclusive deals with other brands, we could now get the same character from 8 different brands!

Since they can’t all reveal what type of figures we’ll get, ToyFarce is here with some speculation!

-Mattel will produce Fortnite Basics, and Fortnite Elite figures, similar to their WWE lines. The basics will be crappy, and the Elite will be barely recognizable and only slightly better, as is tradition.

-Playmates will release a cardboard box looking like a bus, which will have 6 figures in it, like they did with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets.

-NECA will make beautiful figures with great sculpts that will require a hot bath before you can do anything with them.

-Bandai will produce Fortnite figures as part of their SH Figuarts line, so we will get the same figures we already have, but for $90, with more articulations, and they will be released 10-12 months after announcement. At least, the articulations will make them able to do all your favorite dance moves for the game!

-Playmobil would actually be the more interesting, considering the construction aspect that can also be found in the game. If Playmobil ends up making Fortnite figures for real, you heard it here first, folks!

BREAKING NEWS:

TO BE GENDER NEUTRAL TOO, HASBRO TO CHANGE NAME TO “HASPARTNER” OR “HASFRIEND”!

This was the most controversial topic this past week: To be more inclusive, Hasbro decided to rebrand “Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head” to “The Potato Heads”. Tragic, right? Imagine getting upset for that… well…

potato-head-family.jpg

A lot of people took to their social media to express their discontent about this, claiming, of course, that their entire views on genders were established at a young age thanks to Mr and Mrs Potato Head, and that it might confuse their children (as if they couldn’t have a normal conversation with their children and explain them things). Hasbro even had to reply to it, in the following tweet:

Capture.PNG

Now, ToyFarce has heard that there are rumors that they might take a few other steps in that direction, starting from their very own brand name!

“You see, the ‘Bro’ in ‘HASBRO’ is not very gender neutral, so we think it might be time to change that, in order to be more inclusive too. We’re thinking ‘HASPARTNER’ or ‘HASFRIEND’. We’ll probably run a poll to see which is the favorite one!”.

Another thing: The classic game “Guess who?”. Let’s just say it will be more difficult now…

It's Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

MAFEX definitely delivered with what is already called ‘The perfect Superman figure’ by some. This action figure is AMAZING!

PicsArt_03-02-05.36.40.jpg

The packaging is quite sober, more or less the exact same as the MAFEX Batman Hush from last year, except instead of being Batman on it, it’s Superman (DUH!).

PicsArt_03-02-05.37.05.jpg
PicsArt_03-02-05.37.24.jpg

He comes with 4 extra pairs of hands (that’s 8 hands!), an alternative angry-red-eyed headsculpt, and some vines to recreate the scenes when he was being controlled by Poison Ivy in the comic book. The nice MAFEX touch this time, is the extra hand for the Batman figure, with the Kryptonite ring. I always liked when MAFEX does that, and adds an accessory for a previous figure to a new one, so that you can keep playing with them.

PicsArt_03-02-05.37.48.jpg

Well, what is there to say? The pictures speak for themselves. This is a very, very good Superman figure. It will be very difficult to top that one. MAFEX articulations (luckily, I didn’t have any QC issue), the colors are bright and flashy, with the only complain being the yellow on the chest logo and belt that could have been a bit more…yellow?

CALLING FIGURES FROM THE 90’S AND EARLY 2000’S “RETRO” PERFECLY LEGAL (ALLEGEDLY)!

BREAKING NEWS:

CALLING FIGURES FROM 90’S AND EARLY 2000’S “RETRO” PERFECTLY LEGAL (ALLEGEDLY)!

You might have seen it and felt a pinch in the heart when a brand like Hasbro calls toys from your childhood “retro”, but it turns out that it’s ok…

The ‘Retro’ craze started years ago, most likely with the Star Wars: The Vintage Collection from Hasbro, which had the same packaging and design as the original vintage figures from the 70’s and 80’s.

Nowadays, Hasbro is continuing to play with nostalgia, releasing figures from many of their lines (Marvel Legends, Star Wars: The Black Series, Transformers,…) with a packaging similar to the one we had when we were kids/younger.

hasbro_one__01__01.jpg
hasbro_one__01.jpg
98288390-0b2f-415d-a2fc-b62b523cb68d__01.jpg

But recently, Hasbro has been using for their Marvel Legends figures retro line, the same designs as the X-Men, Spider-man, Fantastic Four figures from Toy Biz from the mid to late 90’s. Even more shocking, they announced during a recent Fan First Friday that the next Star Wars: The Black Series “retro” figures would be based on the Star Wars Episode 1 figures which came out in 1999 and early 2000… Is this still considered “retro”?

hasbro-marvel-legends-vintage-collection-cyborg-spider-man-target-exclusive-6inch-box-package-front_480x480__01.jpg
08b185f0-9ac4-4faf-b7df-eaa40a3823c5.877d362e7fe271babef54795a95aecfd__01.jpg
STAR-WARS-THE-BLACK-SERIES-LUCASFILM-50TH-ANNIVERSARY-6-INCH-JAR-JAR-BINKS-Figure-in-pck-1-scaled__01.jpg

ToyFarce asked several experts, and also found on wikipedia that: “Retro style is a style that is imitative or consciously derivative of lifestyles, trends, or art forms from the historical past, including in music, modes, fashions, or attitudes. In popular culture, the "nostalgia cycle" is typically for the two decades that are 20–30 years before the current one.”

So… yeah. We’re just getting old. It’s perfectly normal and legal to call something from 2 decades ago “retro”. If we are to believe this, Facebook, Youtube, the iPod, the iPhone, the Playstation 2 and the Playstation 3, the XBox and XBox 360, the Gamecube and the Wii should all become “retro” during this decade. Ouch?

ARTICULATIONS/JOINTS TOO STIFF? INTRODUCING… THE FIGURE SAUNA!

Introducing the Figure Sauna! You will now be able to treat all your figures with bad articulations and joints or hip problem to a nice, relaxing steam bath, and your figures will thank you for it!

BREAKING NEWS:

ARTICULATIONS/JOINTS TOO STIFF? INTRODUCING… THE FIGURE SAUNA!

If you’ve been a toy collector for more than 3 minutes, you probably have already had a figure, with an arm or a leg that won’t move, and you’re too scared to force too much on it, in case it breaks down. A quick search on the internet later, you found out about the hot water trick, or the hair dryer trick, which consists in applying heat to your figure for a few seconds, in order to ‘shake the joints loose’. And it works! Even NECA agrees, since they shared this in their Instagram stories yesterday…

Screenshot_20210226-103248.jpg

But if you’re not really sure about getting your figures wet (“what if there are die cast or metal parts in there and they start to rust?”) or if the hair dryer solution scares you after seeing that gif:

tenor.gif

… ToyFarce has the solution for you!

Introducing the Figure Sauna™! You will now be able to treat all your figures with bad articulations and joints or hip problem to a nice, relaxing steam bath, and your figures will thank you for it! The Figure Sauna™ will come as a nice little wooden hut, in which you can place all your figures with joints aches (up to 6 figures at a time!). Let the Figure Sauna get hot for a while…

MCFARLANE TOYS DC MULTIVERSE YEAR 1 - PART 3!

It’s Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce review!

Third and final round of pictures for the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse! From the Arkham Knight/Origins wave until Red Hood (single version). I did Part 1 and 2 back to back, but needed more time to go part 3, as I was still missing a couple of the figures. Now that they’re all here, here we go!

Part 1: https://www.toyfarce.com/news/review-mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-wave-1

Part 2: https://www.toyfarce.com/news/mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-year-1-part-2

ARKHAM KNIGHT/ORIGINS WAVE:

PicsArt_02-24-04.58.13.jpg

More video games action figures, with the Batman from the Arkham Knight video game, along with Deathstroke from Arkham Origins. I’ve already had some fun with the way Deathstroke looked like in the packaging in our social media, but for those who missed it, he looks like he’s doing the Conan O’Brien string dance (also, follow @toyfarce, you’re missing out!).

BATMAN (ARKHAM KNIGHT)

This one is way better than the Arkham Asylum one (see Part 2 of our DC Multiverse Year 1 reviews). The articulation is pretty bad, but to me, the scuplt more than makes up for it. This figure has a great presence and will look awesome on any shelf.

Same as the Batman, a great looking figure, with pretty bad articulation, but that will still look good on a shelf. It’s only weird that he came only with a sword, but now that we know that there might be something about Warner Bros removing guns from their products, it might be linked. The sheath is made of soft rubber, which is also weird.

CYBORG (TEEN TITANS)

Now this figure is AWESOME! In the first wave, the 3 figures related to Animated series were not necessarily faithful to their source, but this Cyborg figure looks exactly like Cyborg did in the cartoon “Teen Titans”! Some of his parts are made of clear blue plastic, so we can see a bit through, which is a very nice touch. He comes with a blasting canon arm that can be used to replace his arm.

THE MERCILESS BUILD-A-FIGURE WAVE

Finally, we got another ‘build-a-something’. There was a ‘Build-a-Batmobile’ in the first wave, but nothing after that. The Build-a-figure from this wave looks gorgeous and there was no “filler” figure in that wave, it ended up being 100% awesome.

BATMAN (REBIRTH)

A Greg Capullo designed Batman figure from McFarlane Toys? Sign me the heck in! At least it looks better than the DC Collectibles Designer Series Greg Capullo Batman that looked just awkward… He comes with a couple of axes, so you can recreate that panel from the comic book (minus the baby Darkseid). The cape is interesting, it’s blown to the side by (imaginary) wind, so it’s a nice change from decades of normal/hanging capes. Another solid Batman from McFarlane Toys.

INFECTED SUPERMAN

Coming from the Batman/Superman comic book, this is the figure I actually thought would be the one I would like the less from this wave, and boy, was I wrong. This Infected Supes is GREAT. Decent range of articulation, killer sculpt. The only thing missing would be a flight stand (I don’t know why we don’t get a flight stand for all flying characters. Why are they stingy on the flight stands?). A+ figure.

THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS (WITH SKY TYRANT WINGS)

The first Batman Who Laughs figure was already a very nice action figure, but this one blows it out of the water. The mouth open sculpt is terrifying, the wings look spectacular. Not sure why he comes with the WCW World Heavyweight championship belt, but I’ll take it! It’s like if the Batman Who Laughs was cosplaying as Sephiroth, and I’m totally down for that (except he has 2 wings instead of 1…SEPHIROTH!)

ROBIN CROW (EARTH -22)

There are 3 different versions of that figure: One with mouth open mouth, one with a smirk, and one with a screaming face. I got the smirk at random and I’m happy with it. Those Robins are very well done, with a lot of creepy poses that can be achieved. Maybe one day i’ll pick the other 2, just to have a nice display with both Batman Who Laughs.

Special mention about the tiny shorts, which are made of soft rubber and move nicely with the legs. Creepy !

THE MERCILESS (BUILD-A-FIGURE)

Last but not least, The Merciless (from a dark universe where Bruce Wayne became a God of War and killed Wonder Woman). That figure is part of the “That’s a lot of plastic!” series that Todd loves. Amazing sculpt, easy to piece together. Basic articulations, it would have been nice to be able to pose him in different sword-wielding poses, but we’ll make do with what we have. More Build-a-Figure of the sort, please!

THE FLASH VS EARTH -52 BATMAN (aka RED DEATH)

I wasn’t super excited about getting a second Flash, but I really needed the Red Death to complete the set of the Dark Night: Metal villains. The Flash is pretty much identical to the single version, with only a different head (screaming instead of smirk) and different hands, and no lightning effects. That Red Death, though, is a great figure. Same articulation range as Flash, but EVIL! I wish he came with the black bat-lightning effects that he had on the first promo pics, though. The base is a nice addition, even if it’s a bit plain. It’s going to be nice to use for other toy photography, still.

FLASHPOINT BATMAN

Now THAT is a AWESOME figure. That Thomas Wayne looks like he came right out of the comic book. Probably one of the last few figures to come with guns, also, it seems. I can’t say anything bad about that one. Great sculpt, great poses, great presence. More of that, please!

RED HOOD (SINGLE VERSION)

I did not pick the two-pack with the red Nightwing, because I already double dipped on the Flash with the other two-pack, and since this one was announced not too long after the two-pack came out, I just waited for the single version instead, which is completely identical to the other one. That helmet is SHINY! I thought the DC Essentials Red Hood figure (from DC Collectibles) was a great figure, well, that one is even better. I guess it’s the popped collar. It makes anything looks cooler. The White Knight Batman has one too, and he does look cooler too. We need more figures with popped collar!

BREAKING NEWS:

MEZCO TOYZFAIR 2021 DAY 3 REVEALS/RUMORS!!

The Mezco ToyzFair 2021 event has been going strong during the weekend, with new fresh and exciting reveals every hours during saturday and sunday afternoon, with reveals of One:12 Collective figures such as The Crow, the Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and the Fantastic Four, while some other reveals were…questionable (What the hell is a Grub?)

Now, ToyFarce heard that Mezco will have a few more surprises for you on Day 3, and here are a few pics of what will (most likely not) be revealed today!

MORE KRIGS!

We already have red and black, so we’re missing green, blue, yellow and pink to have a full set of Krig rangers! It’s either that, or more random “Rumble Society” close up pictures that leave us more confused!

MORE POWER RANGERS, ANY OTHER THAN FREAKING MIGHTY MORPHIN’!

Speaking of Power Rangers… So far, every brand that has acquired the “Power Rangers” license has been only producing figures from the 1993 Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers show. It’s not like there’s nearly 30 years of content, with a new design every year, right? (And that’s not counting the years of japanese Sentai before that…) There’s plenty more to pick from, and we’re hopeful Mezco will finally be the brand that does something else (which will probably not happen…). Our pick: We want Andros from Power Rangers In Space!

PicsArt_02-22-04.10.29.jpg

MORE C-LIST BATMAN VILLAINS!

Mezco already made KGBeast, so it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if they released a few more C-listers before giving us Riddler, Penguin, Man-bat, Killer Croc, or any other of the more important villains from Batman’s Rogue gallery! Our bets are on Condiment King or Kite Man!

PicsArt_02-22-03.52.18.png

MORE UNEXPECTED MOVIE ICONS!

Could you imagine a One:12 Collective figure of Imhotep from ‘The Mummy’? Who wouldn’t want that?

PicsArt_02-22-04.02.37.jpg

MORE CLASSIC CARTOON CHARACTERS!

We already have Popeye, so why not go all the way and release more classic cartoon characters? The Flintstones, the Jetsons, the Scooby gang, Dastardly and Muttley, bring them on!

Our pick: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

PicsArt_02-22-03.50.51.jpg

ONE:12 COLLECTIVE GOLDEN GIRLS 4-PACK!

They finished day 1 with a (Fantastic) 4-pack announcement, and many collectors are speculating that we will get a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 4-pack announced today, but we’re sure that Mezco has just been teasing us so we wouldn’t expect another 4-pack: The GOLDEN GIRLS! Seriously, who would expect that?

PicsArt_02-22-03.49.36.jpg

Whether those figures are announced or not, we will see very soon! It’s possible that Mezco is also keeping them for SDCC reveals later in the summer…
