TOYFARCE REVIEWS:
BOSS FIGHT STUDIO’S SAM & MAX!
It’s Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce review!
This week we’re taking a look at the long awaited Sam & Max figures from Boss Fight Studio. I discovered Sam & Max through the PC video game ‘Sam & Max Hit The Road’, from LucasArts, when I was young thanks to a friend (merci, Vincent!). The point-and-click adventure game told the story of Sam, a dog, and Max, a… rabbity-thing, who solve crimes, while having the most funny and non-sensical conversations. Sam & Max were created by Steve Purcell, and were first a comic book (1987) before being in a video game, so I had to catch up on that too. There was also an animated series of 24 episodes in the late 90’s. Later on, I played all the TellTale episodic video games, which still kept the spirit of the old game on newer consoles.
Needless to say, when those figures were first shown at the ToyFare in 2019, my wallet was ready. The orders opened in June 2019, and a year and a half later, they are finally here!
Those figures are surprisingly well articulated (14 points of articulation for Sam, 11 points for Max) and allow for great poses. Sam’s jacket and tie are made of a softer plastic which can move with the figure. Changing heads and hands is a bit difficult, but using the ol’ “hot water/hair dryer” trick helps. Max is such a tiny figure, with tiny arms and articulations that it’s a bit scary when you pull his hands or head to change them, but it still held up. They’re pretty solid figures.
Great figures from Boss Fight Studio. It said “wave 1” on their website, so I hope to see more of those someday (I will not hold my breath, though…). I should be getting the Legends of Lucha Pentagon and Fenix from Boss Fight Studio, as soon as they are not delayed anymore, so I can’t wait to see those, considering the quality of those Sam & Max figures. After receiving the figures, and googling a little, it turns out there is a new game coming out very soon, a VR-game called “Sam & Max: This time, it’s Virtual”. I am really happy to know that they’re still around!
