THE OG ACTION FIGURE - THE WOODEN MANNEQUIN!
It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!
This week, we’re having a look at the origina action figure, the one that (probably) started it all, the wooden freaking mannequin! According to wikipedia, the first mannequins (life size ones, 1:1) date all the way back to 1350 BC. There is no exact time for when the first 1:6 versions started to be used (some say 1850, others say before), so it is safe to say that those mannequins were the first original action figures, complete with articulations and all!
I found this one in IKEA (the land of the Detolf), where the store actually had a few of those displayed inside our coveted glass cabinets… THEY’RE ONTO US, GUYS!
A TRUE INSPIRATION FOR ALL OUR FAVORITE BRANDS

“NO MOVIE SPOILERS!” SAYS COLLECTOR WHO WILL WATCH 14 UNBOXING/REVIEW VIDEOS OF A TOY HE WILL GET IN 2 DAYS!
Spoilers. In our modern world, spoilers are sometimes inevitable.
BREAKING NEWS:
“NO MOVIE SPOILERS!” SAYS COLLECTOR WHO WILL WATCH 14 UNBOXING/REVIEW VIDEOS OF A TOY HE WILL GET IN 2 DAYS!
“SPOILERS! PLEASE DELETE THIS!”
Spoilers. In our modern world, spoilers are sometimes inevitable. If you love a show or a movie, and don’t get a chance to see it within the first few hours it came out, some butthole might post something about it on social media, and, even if you’re super careful about it, you might end up seeing it and being spoiled anyway (For example, my Star Wars collecting dad who sent me a text message saying “wtf, they killed Han!” while I was literally on my way to see The Force Awakens, after staying off any social media the whole day, a few years ago).
At the same time, it seems to always be a race to be the first to post pictures of reveals, or brand new action figures, regardless of if it will spoil the related show or movie. What’s up with that? Toyfarce investigated.
“If I want to see a movie, I try to avoid spoilers as much as I can. I don’t even watch the trailers sometimes. I want to have the best experience, not knowing what it is going to look like, have all the excitement of seeing it for the first time and be surprised” said a passionate collector to ToyFarce.
“Then, how about having that best experience, not knowing what it is going to look like, having all the excitement of seeing it for the first time and being surprised when you get a new toy?
- Oh, that? No, usually, I’ve checked ShartimusPrime, TheFwoosh, ToyShiz, PixelDan, ToyBro, Adventures in Collecting, Unparalleled Universe, DanWho, AnthonysCustoms, … and several other unboxing and review videos of the figure days before I get it. I want to know what I get, and have an opinion on it already, before my hands even touch it.
-Isn’t that contradictory?
- …” (After a few seconds of silence, the call was ended. We were not able to contact him again.)
In a nutshell, spoilers for toys: good, and spoilers for movies/shows: bad.

REVIEWERS: A YOUTUBE STORY!
ToyFarce had the honor to sit down with a famous toy reviewer to discuss about everything YouTube, the trends, the grind, etc
BREAKING NEWS:
REVIEWERS: A YOUTUBE STORY!
ToyFarce had the honor to sit down with a famous toy reviewer to discuss about everything YouTube, the trends, the grind, etc.:
“First, you need a great intro. ‘Hey guys, this is x and welcome to my show where I do this and that, and blahblah’, an intro that you will repeat every single time, that your guests will have to sit through and that your followers will know by heart. For most toy youtubers, it all starts with reviews. A lot of reviewers make the mistake of doing their review in front of a very white, sterile background, with oversaturated lights, in a lightbox like so many already do. By doing that, unfortunately, you show the entire world that you have no personality. It’s better to have a color as a background, but you have to pick it right! Fwoosh has blue, ToyBro has orange, Unparalleled Universe has purple… you need to pick a color that hasn’t been picked yet! How about Magenta, cyan, or navy blue?”
“It’s important that you review everything that you can get your hands on, because you’re an influencer now, and there are people that are waiting for your opinion on a figure before buying it, so you can’t make them wait! Bonus points if you don’t even know the franchise but still review the figures: Your passion for everything you loved will end up fading away anyway, so review things you don’t have any feelings for early on!”.
“After a while, when you’ve got enough of a following, you can do other things than reviews, like previews! When a brand announces something and post a promo picture, you can then make a 19 minute video where you talk about that promo picture. Obviously, you do not have more info about it than your followers, but you need to speculate and make up stuff as much as you can, so that people get excited about that picture! You can also do “hit or miss”, “dope or nope”, “crack or wack” or any variation of it, where you just tell people if a figure is good or bad, in a completely subjective manner.”
“And now a word from our sponsor, Manscaped Legends VPN!… (ToyFarce skipped that part of the interview, like we all usually do).
“When you have no content, it is important to still fill the room with noise, so don’t hesitate to post as many Top 5, Top 10, Top 12 as possible, unnecessarily long hauls, along with ‘Collection room tours’. You can even shoot multiple room tours during the same day, you just have to hide a couple of figures from your display, film your tour, then put the figures back and film another tour! It’s common knowledge that everybody wants to watch 25min videos of someone else’s home. Remember MTV Cribs? Show your followers your collection room. It’s where the magic happens!”
“Finally, when you have reached that top tier level, you can get to the fun part: 8 hours long live shows! This is your time to shine. People will queue to see you talk and hear you read their username. On that note, shoutout to ToyFarce for that interview! And don’t forget to superkick that like button, leave a comment and subscribe to my channel, and click on the bell to enable notifications!”
DISCLAIMER: Satire. ToyFarce loves reviewers, follows and even chats with several reviewers and members of the toy community. ToyFarce only pokes fun at things that we love. Any resemblance to an actual reviewer in particular would be pure coincidence…maybe?

REVIEW: MAFEX BATMAN: HUSH - SUPERMAN!
MAFEX definitely delivered with what is already called ‘The perfect Superman figure’ by some. This action figure is AMAZING!
TOYFARCE REVIEWS:
MAFEX BATMAN: HUSH - SUPERMAN!
It's Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!
MAFEX definitely delivered with what is already called ‘The perfect Superman figure’ by some. This action figure is AMAZING!
The packaging is quite sober, more or less the exact same as the MAFEX Batman Hush from last year, except instead of being Batman on it, it’s Superman (DUH!).
He comes with 4 extra pairs of hands (that’s 8 hands!), an alternative angry-red-eyed headsculpt, and some vines to recreate the scenes when he was being controlled by Poison Ivy in the comic book. The nice MAFEX touch this time, is the extra hand for the Batman figure, with the Kryptonite ring. I always liked when MAFEX does that, and adds an accessory for a previous figure to a new one, so that you can keep playing with them.
Well, what is there to say? The pictures speak for themselves. This is a very, very good Superman figure. It will be very difficult to top that one. MAFEX articulations (luckily, I didn’t have any QC issue), the colors are bright and flashy, with the only complain being the yellow on the chest logo and belt that could have been a bit more…yellow?
He comes with the usual MAFEX base, which can be use to make him fly (but not too high).
Seriously, it is an amazing figure. It’s one of those figures that looks great, whatever you do with it. Even if you try silly poses, or weird stuff… Believe me, I tried:
And now, it’s time for the shameless copy of poses directly from the comic book! (oh, and please, don’t mention the animated movie. It’s still too soon :/ )
There are 3 more Batman: Hush figures already announced by MAFEX (Catwoman, The Joker…without guns and Hush himself). Since there have been a few figures that came out on time lately, we can assume that those next 3 will be inevitably delayed, as is tradition with MAFEX.
More news at 11:00… Up, up and awaaaaay!

REVIEW: NECA’S “TMNT 2: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE” TOKKA AND RAHZAR
This week, we’ll review NECA’s most anticipated release from last year: the Tokka and Rahzar 2-pack from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Secret of the Ooze”!
TOYFARCE REVIEWS:
NECA’S “TMNT 2: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE” TOKKA AND RAHZAR!
It’s Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce review!
This week, we’re taking a break from the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Year 1 reviews again (I’m a bit behind on my toy photography!), and we’ll review NECA’s most anticipated release from last year: the Tokka and Rahzar 2-pack from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Secret of the Ooze”!
First off, I have to mention the amazing bubble-wrap sarcophagus thingy that NECA packed the set with. This thing is beautiful and I haven’t dared to throw it away yet. It’s the best protection I’ve ever witnessed.
This set was “made-to-order”, in the sense that it was an exclusive for the NECA Store, and NECA opened pre-orders on their site for a limited time only (a week or two), and once that time was over, there was no way of getting that set at retail anymore (only secondary market and scalpers, unfortunately). As you can see on the shipping box, it seems they made 11810, so that’s still a pretty good run for those figures.
The box itself is quite big, which is not surprising, considering the size of the figures. They come with a ton of accessories, such as extra hands, a shield, a metal pipe and a wooden bar, an extinguisher, and lots of little easter eggs from the movie.
And now, let’s crack open those bad boys (I always wanted to say that). The “sleeve” inside the box has a barnyard print on it, just like in that scene when they come out of one to attack the turtles, so it’s pretty nice to be able to use it for some pictures as well.
Tokka is a #BEAST. He’s covered in spikes, and his shell is very, very pointy. Seriously. That thing is a weapon. I’m scared it will fall down from a shelf and impale a cat or something. He has a pretty ok “NECA”-set of articulations, even if he can’t do a lot due to his size and weight/balance. The best part is that his face has articulations on the mouth, the nose and the eyebrows (really!). So you can make him look mad, sad,…
Rahzar is also a #BEAST. He has chains, the parts of his ‘armor’ are loose and move around when you move him. His face is not as articulated as his partner, unfortunately, as you can only open/close his mouth.
Both figures look great, with tons of nice little details and the paint job is spot-on. Now it’s time to shamelessly re-enact scenes from the movie!
If you missed out on them, I would say that they are definitely worth tracking down. With a bit of patience and a good amount of luck, you could probably find them at a decent price down the line. No words from NECA on if they will ever re-issue them, but it does seem very unlikely, considering how they were some sort of experiment with the “made-to-order” concept.

2020: A YEAR IN REVIEW!

RETROSPECTIVE NEWS:
2020: A YEAR IN REVIEW!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY! 2020 is over! All hail 2021! (If aliens invade earth, or Skynet takes over, someone please screenshot that first sentence as a “Well, that didn’t age well…” meme).
2020 was a rough year for a lot of us, there is no doubt about that, but actually, the toy industry ended up having a fantastic year! Lots of awesome toys were released, we had some awesome events (ToyFare, Hasbro Pulsecon, tons of virtual events… ToyFarce finally got to attend SDCC this year!!). ToyFarce picked up a few points that made 2020…so 2020!
THE RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MCFARLANE TOYS FIGURES
In January 2020, McFarlane Toys released the first wave of their newly acquired ‘DC Multiverse’ line. Now, 12 months later, we have…
49 figures. FORTY-NINE FIGURES! That includes the nice (albeit unnecessary) blue, bronze or gold repaints, and a vehicle. What other brand has ever done 49 figures on their first year? We got 12 AEW Unrivaled figures from Jazwares, we got 18 figures from Hasbro’s G.I.Joe Classified Series. Even the established lines like Hasbro’s Marvel Legends or the Mattel’s WWE line didn’t make that much figures in their early years (and do about that amount nowadays). Meanwhile, Todd McFarlane said “Hold my beer…” and released 49 figures from one single line in one year (and there’s already dozens of DC Multiverse announced for 2021). While still releasing figures from other lines, like Mortal Kombat, Anime (My Hero Academia,…) and other figures during that year, including the Kickstarter exclusive Classic Spawn, which brings us to…
THE RISE OF THE CROWDFUNDING
Crowdfunding was certainly very popular this year. Not that it wasn’t before that, there were already some awesome toys to back on Kickstarter in the past, along with Haslab’s Jabba’s Sail Barge and Transformers Unicron, but this year is when it went big. Between the HasLab Marvel Legends Sentinel, the Star Wars Vintage Collection Razor Crest, and the McFarlane Toys Kickstarter Classic Spawn, collectors spent a lot of money in crowdfunding in 2020. There were also tons of smaller scale projects that were successfully funded as well. Todd McFarlane has already mentioned that there will be more to come from his side (teasing a Medieval Spawn, when we really wanted Tremor - self-reference to a previous article!), and we all know Hasbro is going to come up with more awesome ideas for us to throw money at. And that’s only for things that won’t be found at the store…
THE COMPLETE CHAOS OF DISTRIBUTION
This year, more than ever, was a very bad year for distribution of toys. With more and more Walmart Exclusives, Target Exclusives, and the disappearance of a certain beloved toy store (We miss you, Geoffrey the Giraffe!) that could distribute those better, some toys were really hard to find this year, from a distribution perspective alone. Some states (and countries) just didn’t get some lines at all. There are people that still have never seen a NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figure, a G.I.Joe Classified series figure or an AEW Unrivaled series 1 figure from Jazwares in the wild. Some states got them, some didn’t. Someone in Maine will say “The Target next to my house had more than 12 of that *insert figure* left!” while someone in Texas will say “I have never seen a single one, and I checked all the stores in my area, driving 6h”. There is clearly an issue with distribution. And we’re only talking about distribution here… There’s another issue related to that…
REVENGE OF THE SCALPERS:
This year has been particularly lucrative for the members of the S.C.A.L.P. When it’s not a distribution issue, you can bet that it’s that other kind of issues. Some people just can’t stop themselves, and would even go to say that they’re doing the right thing, “helping up fellow collectors”, by buying the entire stock and reselling it with a huge mark-up, instead of just letting other collectors finding them themselves. Then, you add the “Time and Energy” tax (woohoo! Another self-reference to a previous article!), and somehow, the price is now double, sometimes triple. This year’s hot items were: Anything Neca TMNT-related (with the Casey Jones/Undercover Raph two-pack being one of the first to really blow up this year), the GI Joe Classified series, or any line of figures that came out in some places a few weeks before it came out in others… Some people bought Marvel Legends, DC Multiverse, WWE Elite or AEW Unrivaled series 2 figures for over $300 from a scalper, only to find them in their own supermarkets at retail a couple of month later. Remember the Marvel Legends Red Hulk? ToyFarce remembers… If people had just waited a little bit, instead of FOMO’ing… oh well.
Talking about waiting:
CORONAVIRUS, AND THE EVER-LASTING DELAYS…
The coronavirus was, of course, the major thing to blame for 2020. Tons of events were canceled worldwide, entire countries were on lockdown, and everything was delayed… Oh boy. The delays. We were hit pretty hard by those, weren’t we? And then everything came out, all at once!! Most of the toys that were supposed to come out between march and october WERE ALL RELEASED at the same time in october/november. Now, there are still some toys that were supposed to come out already that have yet to be released… Like the entire MAFEX catalog, apart from 2 or 3. Hey, Miles Morales from ‘Into the Spiderverse’ just came out, with only 6 months of delay! It seems like we’re going to have to be a bit more patient, as things will continue to be delayed for a while, until the Coronavirus situation gets under control, so we invite you to check out our article about patience from a few weeks ago > https://www.toyfarce.com/news/what-to-do-when-a-toyfarce-psa
In the meantime, while we didn’t get new new toys, we certainly did get new old toys!
WHAT’S OLD IS NEW…AGAIN!
Several brands have been surfing the ‘Retro’ wave for the last few years, but Hasbro became the king of retro in 2020. With several figures from the Marvel Legends wave using the ‘retro’ Toy Biz packaging, the Real Ghostbusters line, that looks just like the one we had when we were kids, the G.I.Joe retro line, and the Star Wars Vintage Collection (which was already ongoing), if you want to re-live your childhood by getting figures that have the same packaging as back then, Hasbro has got your back! Also, can we really call the early 90’s “Retro”?? Are we that old already? Damn…
ToyFarce would like to thank the 3 people that will read the entire thing (Hi, Erik, how you doin’?) and wish you all a glorious 2021!

SPOOKTOBER REVIEWS:
REVIEW: NECA’S TOONY TERRORS, SERIES 2
More cartoony versions of our favorite killers!
Okay, that first wave was really fun, so I picked some more. Here is the second wave in their glorious packaging! The amazing part about this line is that, when you look at them in their packaging, or if you don’t put their weapons in their hands, it looks like they’re all dancing to their favorite song in a nightclub!
Toony Terror Pinhead looks pretty much the same as normal version pinhead, except he does not have nails planted in his head (probably to keep the cartoon aesthetic rather simple). He comes with the movie’s Pandora’s Box (or Lament Configuration), which has also been stripped to its bare minimum to look cartoony.
Michael Myers (no relation to the ‘Wayne’s World’ and ‘Austin Powers’ actor Mike Myers) from the Halloween franchise is pretty simple as well, but that’s how he always looked. He comes with a big knife and a spooky carved pumpkin.
Last but not least, Leatherface, that abonimable deranged monster from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, happens to be the most ‘cartoony’ from that wave. He looks right out of a Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network cartoon. He comes with his trusted chainsaw (duh).
NECA spoiled us with another fun wave of Toony Terrors and I cannot wait to get the following ones. They are silly, yet still represent our favorite horror icons.
Bonus: Here’s a shot of the first 2 waves together!
Now, back to the nightclub…

SPOOKTOBER REVIEWS:
REVIEW: NECA’S TOONY TERRORS, SERIES 1
… because nothing says ‘Cartoony’ like a child molester, a teenager murderer and a couple of child-eating dancing clowns!
Last year, in October, NECA started releasing the ‘Toony Terrors’, a new line of plastic figures representing all the horror icons, in a cartoony way. I didn’t pay much attention to them at first, I’ll admit that, as I saw them at Gamestop a few times and passed on them. Eventually, they grew on me, and as more waves were announced, I ended up getting the first few waves all at once. This is the review for the first wave.
The first wave includes most of the biggest horror icons, such as Jason Vorhees from the Friday, the 13th franchise, Freddy Krueger from the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and 2 version of Pennywise the Clown, from It: The Tim Curry version and the Bill Skarsgård version.
Jason comes with his trusted machete. He looks like a bad guy from a Scooby Doo cartoon, which is great: It allows for display on your shelves next to other Hanna-Barbera figures!
Freddy is the only one that has a stand, and cannot stand on his own. His blades are super fragile, and already needed to be superglued once after he took a dive from a shelf… Be careful with those!
The ‘Tim Curry’ Pennywise comes with an orange balloon, which can be put in his hand (in a tiny hole, that will leave you sweaty and miserable after you’ve tried to enter the balloon’s string in it, and the white plastic covering the metalic string just goes away as it enters… The people who know will know).
The ‘recent’ Pennywise comes with a red balloon, along with a paper boat. The same boat that he used in the movie to trick Georgie to come into the sewers. The balloon can be put in his hand the same way as the other Pennywise (which is terrible).
The Toony Terrors are a pretty cool line. Series 2 and 3 are on their way, hopefully for more Spooktober reviews! If you’re a toy collector and a fan of horror, I don’t see any reason why you would not like those. They decorate a desk very nicely.
Bonus - A tale of 2 Pennywise (NECA’s first Pennywise from the movie + the Toony Terror one)

NECA'S SUPER SHREDDER vs LASER PRINTER-SCANNER
Another week, another review from ToyFarce, with the arrival of NECA's Super Shredder figure, which is a glorious piece of action figure.
ToyFarce managed to secure one when it first came out for pre-order on NECA's website and had been waiting ever since for it to arrive. Here's a look at the art-box, which kinda looks like a VHS tape:
A quick reminder for those who don't remember, you get a Super Shredder by mixing a normal Shredder with mutagen:
This is how you get a Super Shredder.
The details on the Super Shredder are amazing, you can nearly recognize 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash's eyes through the helmet!
Here comes what we've been waiting for, the actual showdown, a fight to the death between Super Shredder and a Laser Printer-Scanner. Enjoy!
"Where is the paper?!"
"Finally, you are mine!"
"YEEEEEEEES!" *paper shredding noises*
"I NEED MORE !"
*SLAM* "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! "
Bonus pics:
"What the f*ck am I wearing ?"

REVIEW: 'DUMPSTER FIRE' VINYL FIGURE BY 100%SOFT
ToyFarce News will try to do more reviews when time allows it, and we have a special treat for you today!
What if there was a toy that could be the perfect representation of 2020, the year where everything went wrong? What if you could display, on your favorite shelf, a toy that would show and feel exactly like the year of COVID-19?
Enter the 'Dumpster Fire' vinyl figure by 100% Soft !
First, let's see that art box:
Isn't it amazing? The colors, the text, everything to let you know that you are about to get that special figure that impersonates this shitty year! We're only starting September, but oh boy, we can't wait for it to be over!
The toy itself is simple, yet stylish. A fun design for a cute dumpster fire. Who wouldn't want that? It also displays very well with other figures!
If you have homeless-looking figures, or any sort of lost creatures, they can be displayed gathered around 100% Soft's Dumpster Fire, to get some comfort and warmth out of it.
There are a few variations of it, with different colors, and even a night light version, or a Kidrobot collaboration with black and gold colors, but the best one is an even more accurate version representing 2020, complete with face mask !
