HOBBY JAPAN BLUES, A TALE OF CONSEQUENCES
Comic Con week is finally over and our collective wallets can now have a sigh of relief! ToyFarce hopes everyone managed to get their pre-orders/orders in for everything they wanted! Talking about pre-orders (SEGWAY!), some drama occured in Japan over the weekend, hereβs the recap:
FRIDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY SUPPORTS SCALPERS
Bandai drops several Gundam model kits for pre-orders online, and they all inevitably sell out in seconds. So far, nothing out of the ordinary, weβve seen how it goes. But an employee of the editorial team of the hugely popular japanese toy magazine, Hobby Japan, decided to go to twitter to make fun of the collectors that didnβt manage to get their model kits. Smart move!
The employee basically said βPeople who didnβt get a pre-order for their figures lack determination, and therefore, are not real fans. The real fans donβt see any issue with paying more to scalpers, because it is their true passion.β Basically, according to him, if you have a problem with having to pay double or triple the retail price to scalpers for a toy, youβre not a real fan. His words, not mine.
SATURDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY APOLOGIZES
After probably being contacted by his work, the Hobby Japan employee tweeted an apology for what he said the previous day.
SUNDAY: The magazine Hobby Japan themselves published an apology, asking people to forgive them for what their employee saidβ¦
MONDAY: EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY FIRED
Said employee was let go by Hobby Japan.
Morale of the story: Donβt post stupid things on Twitter if you live in Japan (and donβt support scalpers!).
