REVIEW: SUPER7 NJPW KAZUCHIKA OKADA
TOYFARCE REVIEWS:
SUPER7 NJPW KAZUCHIKA OKADA
It's Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!
Fresh from Ringside Collectibles, the long awaited Super7 NJPW figures were finally released…and the crowd went MILD!!
First off, for those unfamiliar with NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling), Kazuchika Okada is one of the best wrestlers on the planet these days, only eclipsed by a few. His matches with Kenny Omega are legendary (their matches regularly scored over 5 stars…on a 5 star rating, and they share the only 7 star out of 5 match in the history of wrestling). Here’s his entrance theme:
The figures come with their own mini-shipper boxes, which is nice. Shipper box collectors will go crazy about those. The boxes also have a ‘sleeve’, with the NJPW logo, which looks very classy.
The figure itself? Well… The likeness is unfortunately quite off. He comes with 2 different headsculpts, which are not that different from one another, one of his signature entrance robes, the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship belt, 5 different sets of hands, and some Rainmaker money.
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: The ugly-ass ab crunch. When I saw the first few pics from people starting to get their figures, and saw that hard-to-miss ab crunch, I believe I said out loud “OH NO”. Fortunately, as ugly as it is, it’s not that bad in person. It looks bad if you over-bend the figure, like this…
…but if you keep the figure in ‘normal’ standing positions, it’s not as bad as it looked on those first pics, thank goodness.
The scale is unfortunately quite off too, as Okada is supposed to be a very tall man, while this figure is the same size as your standard wrestling figure (and it’s even worse when compared to the other Super7 NJPW figures, which has Tomohiro Ishii at about the same size, while he is a lot shorter in real life).
Talking about other wrestling figures, let’s revisit some of the Rainmaker’s rivalry, with 2 former Bullet Club members (even though Bullet Club is supposed to be 4…4…4…4 LIFE).
The bottom line is this: Could it have been better? Yes. Does it look like the prototype we were shown? Not really. But, am I happy that I get to have an action figure of “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada to display next to my other wrestling figures? Absolutely. This is probably the only Okada figure we will get in a long time, so we’ll make do with what we have.
Series 1 had Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii and Will Ospreay, and series 2 had already been announced and will include most of the members of the Ingobernables de Japon faction: Tetsuya Naito, Hiromu Takahashi, Bushi and EVIL (who has now joined the Bullet Club, betraying his friends).
